Job Description

The Director of Curriculum Development for the School of Health Sciences oversees activities related to the creation, maintenance, and delivery of University Curriculum.

The Director is responsible for the oversight and management of effective curricula that result in student achievement. The Director promotes academic growth and development by overseeing the development and design of innovative, student-centered courses. This position may also include other responsibilities associated with a Faculty appointment including teaching and academic administration. The Director of Curriculum Development reports to the Dean and collaborates with the Associate Dean, Program Directors, Core Faculty, and Content Experts to identify and execute innovative technologies and methodologies throughout the School curriculum to support the mission and vision of Northcentral University. The Director of Curriculum Development participates in the University’s overall curriculum planning, development, and evaluation.


Essential Functions

  • Oversee curriculum development and improvement for the School at the Master’s and Doctoral levels, with the exception of the research/dissertation curriculum.
  • Reports to the Dean and supports the Associate Dean and Program Directors
  • Manage the development, evaluation, and revision of School courses.
  • Participate in School-wide instructional evaluation efforts.
  • Represent the School in academic assessment and curriculum committees and serves as School liaison with the Instructional Design team.
  • Review new program content to ensure consistent and high quality delivery.
  • Ensure existing courses are updated and refreshed on a consistent basis according to University and School needs.
  • Integrate and ensure the incorporation of new technology into courses to promote student engagement and learning.
  • Participate in university curriculum initiatives.
  • Provide curriculum innovation and direction.
  • Manage the work of lead faculty and subject matter experts to ensure timely development of quality curriculum.
  • Evaluate data related to student academic performance to anticipate needs for curricular change and improvements.
  • Participate regularly in teleconferences with the other curriculum leaders of the university to share ideas and promote unity of curricular goals.
  • Coordinate “hot fixes” of courses within the School and with the Instructional Design team.
  • Share best practices with faculty mentors through regular communication.
  • Communicate with the leadership team and stakeholders on curricular implementation and timeliness of changes.
  • Provide oversight of the curriculum design and review process in collaboration with Associate Dean, Program Directors, lead faculty and content experts.
  • In collaboration with Assessment Director, ensures courses contain identified program learning outcomes to facilitate assessment of program effectiveness.
  • In collaboration with Assessment Director, ensures courses contain identified institutional learning outcomes to facilitate assessment of institutional effectiveness.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits, meeting deadlines, coordinating resources and meetings in a timely manner.
  • Promotes a graduate culture of scholarship, teaching, service, and practice.
  • Complete all required professional development activities as defined in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Reasonable and consistent attendance to fulfill requirements of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in operating equipment, such as personal computer, fax, copier, phone systems.
  • Ability to handle a diversity of details in order to make informed and responsive decisions on matters that impact the Faculty Mentors, Learners, and review processes.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governing body regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a proven ability to provide timely, accurate information on a variety of academically oriented subjects to both internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to establish short- and long-term academic goals and objectives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and other applications in the Microsoft Office suite.

Education and Experience

  • Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution aligned with School of Health Sciences offerings required, PhD or EdD in Curriculum Development preferred
  • Industry Experience in School relevant fields preferred
  • Online teaching experience required
  • Curriculum development experience required
  • Proficiency in the use of technology in the delivery of education
  • Experience in higher education preferred
  • Experience working in a technology-driven enterprise preferred
  • All skills, abilities, and education will be considered for minimum qualifications
