Current Need:

We are seeking a Director, Business Development to join our Laboratory Product Strategy team in our Richmond, VA location.

Position Description

There is rapid and material change in laboratory diagnostics; many products take years to develop and bring to market, and it is imperative that McKesson stays ahead of this innovation curve. In so doing, we will further McKesson's competitive position and ability to achieve better business health for our customers and better care for all through improved laboratory diagnostics. This position is responsible for leading the identification, evaluation and implementation of new diagnostic technologies, new diagnostics manufacturers, and new market opportunities to drive growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create and update Lab Innovation Strategy. Conduct market analysis to identify most promising areas of innovation.
  • Establish key partnerships and alliances with other organizations and identify and evaluate new diagnostic technologies.
  • Understand the full value of McKesson (Medical and full Enterprise) and passionately convey this to target companies. Clearly outline the services McKesson can provide and set appropriate expectations with target companies.
  • Lead cross-functional discussions with laboratory experts to vet innovation candidates.
  • Perform financial and other necessary due diligence on candidate companies.
  • Drive cross-functional decisions to determine which opportunities to pursue.
  • Develop business plans, strategy, and goals for new technologies; negotiate terms and contracts with target companies.
  • Collaborate in the pilot and launch of new technologies and solutions.
  • Work closely with manufacturers in the development of products - selling data and other services to aid in development.

Minimum Requirements

10+ years of relevant experience. Less years required if has relevant Master's or Doctorate qualifications.

Critical Skills
  • 7+ years experience - ideally in clinical laboratories and/or healthcare
  • 3+ years experience evaluating industry trends, understanding long-term implications, and recommending strategies for new business opportunities

  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to develop rapport and credibility across the organization, promote ideas and proposals persuasively

Education

4-year degree or equivalent experience (Chemistry, Biology, or other science background may be helpful)
