Job Description

Responsible for performing stocking and custodial duties at an assigned dialysis unit. Responsible for assisting with implementation of Lean strategies. Reports to the Dialysis Nurse Manager and or Technical Leader of the dialysis program, or the charge nurse in his/her absence.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Properly clean patient equipment and tear down machines. Maintains storage of supplies and equipment.
  • Follows standard precautions and infection control policies and procedures for dialysis setting, including OSHA regulations and MSDS information sheets.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in work situation and functions as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates ability to plan work activities.
  • Treats patients and families with respect, dignity and compassion. Maintains neat clean and safe work area, which includes ancillary equipment.
  • Demonstrates professional approach to job.
  • Responsible for helping minimize waste in assigned unit.
  • Understands Lean principles
  • Prepares blood samples for shipment.
  • Responsible for the preparation, labeling cleaning/disinfecting and storage of bicarbonate and acid systems.
  • Assists clinical staff as needed in treatment area, (e.g. holding needle sites, transporting, assist with weighing, etc).
  • Performs water testing as required.
  • Disinfects machine as required (date and time of disinfection if applicable).
  • Functions consistently as a team member, positively contributing on a daily basis to the goals and objectives of the dialysis program as appropriate to the scope of position
  • Complete all required and assigned in-services and online education and demonstrate incorporation of the teaching/learning as appropriate to position Act in a manner that demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision, values, goals and objectives of the dialysis program
  • Adhere rigorously to all infection control/infection prevention requirements
  • Behave in a manner designed to contribute to a neat, clean, safe, compliant environment and appropriately speak up as needed regarding any potential concerns. Apply process-improvement principles to daily work and work area.
  • Adhere to confidentiality and HIPAA safety and privacy requirements.
  • Working in a continuous learning environment, actively participates in own learning, seeks to contribute to team and program learning as appropriate to position.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisor, other charge personnel, and team members, including medical leadership as appropriate to position.
  • Accept constructive criticism professionally.
  • Adheres to team member standards and diversity principles and expectations, including deaf and hard of hearing guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Requires high school diploma or GED.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Stands and walks most of the time on duty.
  • Works rotating shifts as necessary.
  • Lifts and pushes patients on stretchers and in wheelchairs.
  • Lifts and carries dialysate solution containers.
  • May transport 55 gallon concentrate containers.
  • May be subject to hazardous waste and materials.
