Position Summary

The Title V Grant Development Director implements and oversees all components of development for the U.S. Department of Education’s Title V Grant awarded to the University of Los Alamos (UNM-LA) branch. Under indirect supervision, this position will support the strategic fundraising efforts of a large University operating unit by coordinating a program or narrow set of programs aimed at targeting donors and prospects for major gifts, exceeding $25,000. Provides broadly based assistance to staff in support of the identification, cultivation, and stewardship of donors and sponsors. Note that large gifts are often developed starting with smaller gifts. The position will also facilitate smaller gifts in the cultivation of larger gifts.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Establish a development/fundraising program and office with the requisite protocols and operating procedures to properly interface into the organizational structure.

Identifies opportunities for additional funds, including local, state, and national grant and foundation opportunities.

Facilitates preparation of grant proposals working with various members of the UNM-Los Alamos faculty and staff and also coordinates with appropriate units at main campus for grant applications.

Requires a research and understanding of the local community and culture, as well as, branch programs and departments, to ensure a holistic and thorough understanding of the college and community.

Responsible for individual and corporate giving campaigns to meet the Title V grant fundraising goal of $50,000 per year to increase the UNM-LA endowment.

Work with the Chancellor and the Title V Program Manager to establish systems for regular contact of donors to keep them advised and engaged.

This is a grant-funded position with a project period of 5 years (ending September 30, 2025).

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field from an accredited institution or an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
  • Five years of progressive experience in individual and corporate fund raising.
  • Experience with fiduciary responsibilities, fundraising ethics, and related accounting and/or certification as a fundraising professional (CFRE Certification) or a similar fiduciary or legal certification.
  • Fundraising experience in a Higher Education environment.
  • Knowledge of UNM-LA and surrounding communities
