Development Officer, Individual Giving

The Development Officer, Institutional Giving, is a front-line fundraiser on the New York Public Radio development team. The Officer will work in partnership with the Chief Development Officer, Director of Institutional Giving, Associate Director of Institutional Giving and other senior staff and board members to develop and oversee strategies to build and maintain relationships with institutional funders and prospects who are capable of making annual and multi-year gifts of $25,000 to seven-figures for NYPR projects.
Responsibilities:

  • Serve as front line fundraiser for a portfolio of 25+ foundation, government, and corporate foundations for annual and multi-year gifts of $25,000 to seven-figures, initiating and stewarding key funding relationships, and serving as resident “expert” on those donors and first point of contact.
  • Write high level grant proposals, reports, and correspondence for WNYC and WNYC Studios programming (and others as needed) and manage budget preparation.
  • Support Director of Institutional Giving in proposal development, writing, and reporting.
  • Manage the identification, research, and moves management of institutional funders.
  • Oversee ongoing budget tracking and reconciliation for portfolio projects with the Finance department.
  • Develop and oversee the planning and execution of one-on-one meetings, station tours, convenings and other small gatherings to create targeted cultivation, solicitation and stewardship opportunities.
  • Establish strong relationships and lines of communication with program staff, working together to create accurate and informative messaging, manage tracking of deliverables, and produce engaging donor events, as needed.
  • Perform other special projects as requested by the Director, Institutional Giving, Chief Development Officer, and President.
  • Key member of a 4-person team.

Qualifications: *

  • A minimum of five years institutional fundraising experience required
  • Exceptional grant writing and editing skills, including experience writing successful proposals for 6/7-figure gifts and preparing correspondence
  • Excellent oral communication skills, including experience meeting with and/or running meetings with high level donors and/or NYPR leadership/programming staff
  • Strong accountability for budgets
  • Interest in WNYC & WQXR & podcasts strongly preferred.
  • Active knowledge of NY philanthropic and cultural communities strongly preferred.
  • Self-starter with ability to get up to speed quickly and work independently.
  • Highly motivated, organized, flexible and proactive, with strong project management skills.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs, internet applications and fundraising databases.
  • Ability to work within a highly collaborative team in a fast paced environment.

Due to the nature of this role, in-person work at our office is required.
