Design Engineer

The position, reporting to the Engineering Manager and located in Henderson, Colorado, will be responsible for designing and developing: parts, assemblies, process equipment, prototypes and testing to meet company and customer needs. The Design Engineer must be experienced and capable; using a variety of engineering tools. He/She must have a strong mechanical aptitude, problem solving knowhow and participate in and support efforts in new product designs and the reengineering of existing designs. This will be a hands on position meaning the individual will work in the manufacturing environment, participate in team meetings and sometimes lead meetings, as well as complete projects/work themselves.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage and facilitate engineering projects cradle to grave.
  • Work with management group and customers to collect information to support product development and specifications.
  • Research materials, quantities and specifications for defined projects.
  • Create drawing models and assemblies.
  • Develop project/design documents (e.g., calculations, reports, specification and instructions) according to regulatory standards.
  • Estimate production cost and effect of product design changes for management review, action, and control.
  • Plan and establish sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products.
  • Apply technical knowledge to innovate, design and develop equipment, fixturing, procedures, processes, tooling and/or automation.
  • Drive consistency in the use of Engineering tools and processes such as Lean/Six Sigma tools.
  • Participates in cross functional planning meetings to evaluate future product specs for process, manning and equipment requirements.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical or related engineering degree required with 1 to 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in the transportation industry sector, Semi-Truck/Trailer manufacturing preferred.
  • Knowledge of processes and manufacturing equipment: fabrication, machining, CNC, welding of aluminum and steel, and assembly.
  • Solid PC and software proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications, MRP/ERP, AutoCAD, SolidWorks and DriveWorks.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, ability to understand complex issues and systematically work toward resolution.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively with all types of people throughout the organization.
  • Must have good organizational and time management skills as well as have the ability to meet deadlines with appropriate attention to detail in a fast paced, highly dynamic environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
