Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

Location: Swiftwater, PA

Summary of Purpose / Major Responsibilities

The Deputy Director Automation provides compliance management and support of the Automation systems in Utilities, Filling, and Formulation platform within the Technical Services department. This position also directs subject matter experts in the group, by providing operational support also playing a key role in development and implementation of the strategic automation obsolescence plan, management, and personnel, in support of the strategy. The Deputy Director is expected to manage project resources assigned to capital projects as well as resources assigned to non-strategic project execution. The role is responsible for site Automation compliance and defining a process in place for the development of an Industry 4.0 plan supporting a longer term vision for the site. Provide creative leadership - Develop innovative automation architecture to improve productivity, quality, and value of manufacturing operations

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist and provide vision, leadership and direction of the automation systems and personnel supporting the areas platforms and project.

  • Ensure efficient and effective operation by directing resources and ensure they are executing all strategic programs according to plan. Developing & monitoring metrics, regularly communicating with end users, and automation group personnel, and by providing the needed support in the form of training, tools, time, and procedures

  • Provide personnel management. Develop personnel for increased company value and their personal satisfaction. Work with department teams to ensure success

  • Assist with development the automation project budget and scope

  • Ensure compliant work with good documentation and that there is accurate, available information and inventory of equipment, buildings and systems and the associated PMs, parts and labor requirements

  • Provide strategic guidance within the company to ensure that automation systems are updated appropriately

  • Providing a technical interface between various support groups as required, incumbent may manage activities throughout the development life cycle of system improvements to increase Industry 4.0 visibility, compliance and presence

  • Significant environmental aspects of the job include: working with all parties in assigned area at almost all levels of leadership; compliance with the FDA and Corporate requirements;

  • Working to provide consistent standards for automation using best practices.

  • Manages constantly increasing workloads for assigned area.

  • Adapts to challenging & changing budgets. Ensures the assigned area within the department stays technically current to meet the needs of the equipment used in the facilities.

  • Maintain and manage qualified contractors to supplement automation projects.

  • Develop systems and working procedures that will enhance our operation keep cost to a minimum, provide improved quality and response time and keep our work compliant with the FDA, OSHA, EPA, DEP, and other regulatory agencies.

Dimensions / Scope

  • The Deputy Director Automation will manage an assigned team who are part of the overall Technical Services Department supporting areas platforms.

  • The job includes the hiring decisions for assigned open positions.

  • The job responsibilities are significant and can significantly impact both the company's profit and the outcome of regulatory decisions from inspections without providing the needed balance between business and compliance.

  • Through the review and direction of employees (both exempt and non-exempt), this position ensures that the automation day to day support and project responsibilities are addressed and the department is continually improving.

Education / Experience

  • B.S. in electrical, mechanical, chemical and/or other applicable engineering field required.

  • A minimum of 15 years in automation systems and electro-mechanical engineering background and experience.

  • Individual must have strong communication skills and working knowledge of unit operations typically used in biotech and vaccine manufacturing.

  • Must understand the relationship between Good Manufacturing Practices, industry standards and their application to the manufacturing process.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external team members is essential.

  • This position requires strong management and analytical skills (engineering analysis).
