DESCRIPTION

The Moores Cancer Center is one of just 51 in the United States to hold a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. As such, it ranks among the top centers in the nation conducting basic and clinical cancer research, providing advanced patient care and serving the community through outreach and education programs. The Cancer Center's mission is to translate promising scientific discoveries into new and better options for the care of patients with cancer. The Center supports one of the broadest ranges of cancer activities in the nation - from fundamental and translational cancer research in molecular genetics and advanced molecular therapeutics, and from population studies of cancer incidence to community education about cancer prevention and risk reduction.

The UC Cancer Consortium (UCCC) has been created to join five of the nation’s leading comprehensive cancer centers (UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, UC San Francisco Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center) as part of UC Health. Under UCCC, one of the programs, UC Pancreatic Cancer Consortium at Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is taking the lead to provide access to data across this consortium via virtual tools. Our aim is to construct a Virtual Pancreatic Cancer Biorepository (V-PANCANB) tool designed to provide this service to the UC Pancreatic Cancer Consortium. We will develop a database containing non-PHI information that will be accessible through a website under the Moores Cancer Center Biorepository website. The goal is to develop a website that has complex search capabilities that allows researchers to search through the deposited pancreatic cancer patient information, to select specimens of interest.

The Virtual PANCAN Biorepository will provide contact information so that the Consortium researchers can contact a specific collaborating the biobank and begin the process of requesting samples. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Biorepository, the incumbent will develop and maintain a web-based database using REDCAP or similar programs that will support sample search traceability and that can be integrated with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), as well as other applications. Data will be unlinked to patients PHI. Part of the tasks will be development as well as maintenance of a system that supports all the functions at UC Pancreatic Cancer Consortium customer interaction, as well as integration and development of applications regarding sample data and other medical data.
