Job Description
Customer Service Assistant Location: Hardesty Regional Library - 8316 E 93 St. Tulsa, OK. 74133 Salary: $13.74/hr. FT/PT Status: Part Time - 20 hour/week Schedule: Monday 1 - 5 pm Tuesday 1 - 5 pm
Wednesday 1 - 5 pm
Thursday 1 - 5 pm
Alternating Friday 2 - 6 pm and Saturday 1 - 5 pm Some Sundays required The Hardesty Regional Library Customer Service Assistant is trained to help customers have an excellent experience, provides direction to customers concerning library services and circulation policies; charges, discharges and renews library materials; sorts and routes returned library materials to proper locations; processes daily operations report; checks materials for wear or damage; performs other duties as assigned; is flexible and adaptable throughout the workday, in the type and location of work to be accomplished in order to provide superior customer experiences. Essential Functions:
  • Provides general information in person and by phone assisting customers in locating and discovering materials, connecting with available library services, or providing information about the library, referring reference questions to the appropriate resource;
  • Assists customers with self check-out machines by instructing how to charge, renew, and discharge library materials to/from customers;
  • Registers customers by issuing and updating library cards;
  • Sorts and routes returned materials to proper location and ensures that the library is neat and organized so customers can easily find what they need;
  • Receives and records fines and lost materials information;
  • Checks library materials for damage and performs minor repairs;
  • Maintains orderly service areas;
  • Complies with Process Activated Training System (PATS) scripts when performing job tasks and making additional contributions to the PATS scripts as necessary to continually ensure all tasks are being performed consistently and with the best practices;
  • May be assigned to any branch, outlet or community space.
  • Maintains periodical collections, sorts gift items, and prepares new books for circulation as directed;
  • May help customers with basic technology and Internet problems;
  • May assist with marketing of library materials on shelving and display tables.
  • May assist with the operation of A/V equipment for library performances in Connor’s Cove theater, including basic soundboard operation, projector setup, and lighting settings.
  • May assist with maintenance of collection, such as completing dusty lists and withdrawing items chosen for weeding by library associates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Some college level coursework preferred.
  • No previous experience required.
  • Past experience interacting with customers preferred.
  • Bilingual English - Spanish or Asian-Pacific preferred.
Physical and Environmental Conditions: Physical Activity: For most positions work regularly requires stooping, bending and light lifting such as three or four reams of paper, four or five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds). Some positions require moderate physical exertion, such as regularly lifting moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) such as crates full of books or pushing heavy (up to 100 pounds) wheeled carts full of books, on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions.

Work Environment: Work environment involves everyday risk or discomforts which require normal safety precautions, e.g. use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and or avoidance of trips and falls. For some positions there are usually no major sources of discomfort; work is essentially conducted in a normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditions. For some positions there may be occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperatures (extreme cold or heat) and air conditions due to exposure to the outdoors.
