The Boys & Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic offers a safe, wholesome after school environment for kids age 5 through 18 to have fun and learn.

Our professional staff deliver a comprehensive array of high quality educational, social, and recreational programs.

Position Summary

Boys & Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic seeks a Custodian to join our team to perform custodial and maintenance duties. The Custodian reports to the Director of Facilities and is responsible for maintaining a clean environment. The custodian must be thorough in working, cleaning and tidying the premises. The ideal candidate will be an experienced custodian with a keen eye for detail and diligence. The Custodian will work 25 hours per week during the hours of 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities:

• Daily cleaning and maintenance of the facility: clean windows and walls, sweep and mop, dusting, vacuuming of carpets and rugs.
• Clean and disinfect commonly used areas: desks, counter tops, bathrooms, door handles, etc.
• Clean bathrooms, wash and sanitize toilets, sinks, clean mirrors and refill soap dispenser, toilet paper and paper towel dispensers.
• Throw out the garbage, sweep and pick up garbage/litter in front of the building.
• Turn off lights and secure facilities by locking doors, closing windows and arming the security system.
• Maintain outdoor grounds, remove debris, cut grass and trim bushes
• Remove snow and ice from walkways, driveways, stairs and sidewalks .
• Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by tidying furniture and dusting surfaces.
• Organize and maintain cleaning inventory, custodial closets and spaces - notify supervisor when inventory is low.
• Promptly respond to all maintenance calls and attend to spills, breaks or other accidents.
• Maintain working condition of cleaning equipment.
• Undertake additional custodial tasks including lifting heavy items, moving chairs, etc.as needed.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED preferred
• Speak and understand English
• At least 1 year experience as custodian/janitor or in a similar role
• Proven experience in general maintenance
• Experience and ability in the following tasks: changing light bulbs, painting, use of basic tools, use of power washing machines and vacuums.
• Knowledge of and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
• Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids
• Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies
• Willing to get trained to operate different machines and equipment.
• Must be dependable and have dependable transportation
• Must taken pride in your work and all that you do
• Must be able to communicate effectively
• Must possess strong work ethic and ensure timely arrival
• Ability to handle physical workload
• Strong attention to detail and conscientiousness
• Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and guidelines.
• Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
• Upon receipt of a job offer, background checks, drug testing and physical examinations are required for employment at the Boys & Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic.

Working Conditions

• Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
• Work environment involves some exposure to cleaning chemicals which require following basic safety precautions.
• Work may involve moderate exposure to elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, and/or loud noises.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday
• Weekend availability
