    General Scope of Responsibilities - Orderly management and safe supervision of elementary students in the cafeteria during lunch period, and outdoors or indoor in inclement weather during recess period
    Reports to - Building Principal Supervises - N/A
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    FOR CAFETERIA SIDE
    • Report five minutes prior to the beginning of the first lunch period and remain five minutes after the last recess period
    • Supervise lunch line, milk and ice-cream lines
    • Monitor disposal of trash, return of trays/dishes/utensils
    • Insure that tables are washed; supervise student clean-up of tables and floors as appropriate
    • Organize dismissal lines in preparation for recess period

    FOR RECESS SIDE
    • Organize and direct activities for students during recess
    • Distribute and collect playground equipment
    • Comply with building schedule of times and dates for special events, early dismissals, parent conferences, etc.
    • Work in concert with other monitors to assist one another in general concerns

    FOR BOTH RECESS AND CAFETERIA
    • Supervise and discipline students in a fair, just and consistent manner in accordance with school policies and practices
    • Comment on and reinforce positive and appropriate behavior in students
    • Complete and submit discipline referrals when necessary and notify students of such action
    • Refer extreme situations to head monitor
    • Other duties as may be assigned

    Required Qualifications and Experience
    • Aptitude in working with children
    • Ability to communicate in a positive manner with children in resolving conflicts positively
    • Ability to intercede with children in a positive and constructive manner
    • Ability to work as a team player
    • Willingness to learn cooperative games

    Physical Demands
    • Ability to work in a school environment for extended periods of time including, but not limited to standing, some lifting, bending and reaching
    • Ability to remain out of doors for extended periods of time
    • Comment on and reinforce positive and appropriate behavior
    • Must be able to participate in sustained physical activity with children for at least 20 minutes

    Term of Employment 3.25 hours/day, 180 days/year when students are in school. There are no medical benefits with this position.
    Part-time position; 10 months/year based on school calendar
