Job Summary

Residence Life welcomes applications for a Coordinator for Student Leadership Development! This is a 12-month (1.0 FTE), professional exempt position. This role provides leadership, planning, management and administrative oversight to residence life student leadership development and community engagement for an undergraduate community of over 9,000 students in the residence halls and on-campus apartments. This position serves as the primary advisor to the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) and provides support for Community Councils. The coordinator will help build opportunities for student engagement and involvement in the residence halls, in the greater university, and in the Boulder community. This position also works closely with student leaders and campus administrators to provide alcohol and other drug alternative activities and events in university owned housing.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Student Leadership and Community Development

  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of all RHA and NRHH related programs and events.
  • Attend, and provide support during, annual student retreats.
  • Serve as the leading adviser for conference delegations attending local, regional, and national conferences, including supporting conference preparations, on site advising support, operating a motor vehicle to transport students to/from conference activities, and post conference wrap up reports.
  • Hold one-to-one meetings with the executive members of RHA and NRHH.
  • Attend all RHA and NRHH Executive Board and General Body meetings.
  • Assist with the selection, recruitment and induction of new NRHH members.
  • Oversee, help coordinate and attend RHA and NRHH campus-wide events such as the RHA Fall Welcome programming, Residence Life Student Leadership Banquet, and other related events.
  • Coordinate and be responsible for the Stampede Leadership Camp, and support residence hall move-in through volunteer coordination.
  • Provide training for residence life staff related to student leadership organizations, community council advising and general leadership development.
  • Serve as a resource to community council advisors across campus and provide them with tools to prioritize and maintain successful organizations including information on executive elections, meeting management, programming and events, etc.
  • Partner with the Sustainability Programs Manager to facilitate competitions both with regard to Lucid energy metering system and E-Center PIPs Carbon Challenge.
  • Serve as an acting Community Council adviser, in the instance of a Hall Director vacancy.
  • Advocate for the needs of residence hall leaders to departmental and campus leadership.
  • Support student organizations in the implementation and use of Presence, or other student management software.
  • Identify standard methodologies and implement strategies (based on development theories and research) to assure full student participation and engagement in residential living.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with other leadership program staff across campus, including the Center for Student Involvement.
  • Oversee campaigns to connect residence hall students into existing campus initiatives, including but not limited to Intramural sports through the CU Rec Center, Alternative Breaks through the Volunteer Resource Center, CU GOLD through the Center for Student Involvement.
  • Develop partnerships between RHA programming and UMC Program Council to increase the number of large scale programs happening within the residential neighborhoods on campus.
  • With other residence life staff, develop and implement programs to help residence hall students get involved and engaged in their residence hall, university, and Boulder community.
  • Partner with administrative staff, Sustainability Program Manager, and students to coordinate donation drives that occur within residence halls and apartment communities.
  • Develop and maintain connections between student retention and success programs in Student Affairs and student leadership development programs.
  • Develop and implement with residence life staff and the Residence Hall Association various social and community building programs for residence hall students to provide alternatives to abuse of alcohol and other drugs.

Diversity, Inclusion and Equity

  • Integrate diversity, inclusion and equity into development of programs, practices, policies, and processes, with intentional focus on increasing representation in student leaderships roles.
  • Educate students and staff in respecting and understanding cultural differences.
  • Support and assist traditionally underrepresented students(s) by applying campus resources, and developing creative and diverse programming.
  • Maintain knowledge and education of self in areas of diversity, inclusion and equity.

Administration and Financial Management

  • Follow all federal, state, university and departmental budget procedures.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for any RHA related contracts and agreements, including care package and linen delivery services.
  • Ensure tracking of RHA equipment and tidiness of RHA offices and storage rooms.
  • Allocate budget dollars to support critical initiatives.
  • Oversee residence life budgets and expenditures for student leadership programs.
  • Serve on 1-2 residence life committee’s to assist with departmental initiatives and strategic goals.
  • Perform other functions and assume other responsibilities related to management as assigned.

Emergency Response

  • On a case-by-case basis, serve in an on-call role through a rotation with hall directors. The on-call roll for after-hours emergency response may require reporting to the residence hall community to support and consult with those impacted or in first line of response roles.
  • Provide crisis intervention and emergency management as needed.

What We Can Offer

The hiring pay range for this position is $45,000 to $53,000. Onboarding assistance is available within Student Affairs division guidelines.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • One year Leadership, program development, and program implementation experience within a university setting.
  • One year of professional leadership experience in an educational field or two years in a graduate assistantship with similar experience.
What You Will Need
  • General knowledge and understand of assessment in higher education or student affairs.
  • Proven commitment to diversity and social justice.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills in program planning, assessment, budget and evaluation.
  • Proven skills in mentoring and supervising student leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability in organizing and facilitating student development programs and operational responsibilities, including large-scale events.
  • Demonstrated a significant level of familiarity with Housing & Dining Services operations and personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate and interpret campus policies.
  • Previous experience in planning strategically both in the short and long-term.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Master's degree in higher education administration or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in addressing issues of diversity and multicultural competencies.
