JOB TITLE: Controller
DEPARTMENT: Accounting/Finance
REPORTS TO: VP of Finance
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
LOCATION: Napa, CA

SUMMARY: The Controller will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting and reporting activities.
The Controller will lead all day-to-day finance operations and supervise a team of staff members including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. The Controller will work closely with organizational leaders and their staffs, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support operations.
Accounting Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supervise accounting department staff including: accounts payable, accounts receivable and other accounting functions. Assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions. Monitor staff and report on department performance to ensure all financial objectives are being met and information is reliable.
- Maintain accounting department staff including selecting, orienting and training employees. Manage the accuracy and productivity of day to day activities. Completes annual performance reviews of employees and provides continual coaching and mentoring to employees.
- Assist VP of Finance and the CFO with the annual budgeting process.
- Assist VP of Finance & CFO with M&A activities.
- Ensure the company’s policies and procedures and internal controls are being properly followed and enforced. Assists in development of internal controls to maintain a strong internal control environment.
- Responsible for performing month end close and producing timely monthly consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules for internal and external reporting.
- Prepare and post monthly general journal entries necessary to produce financial statements.
- Reconciles and records all corporate credit card activity.
- Maintains the general ledger, prepares monthly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts.
- Maintains fixed asset detail ledgers and historical information.
- Produce daily banking information for senior management by collecting and summarizing daily cash activities. Maintain company’s positive pay reporting to bank.
- Responsible for various tax reporting requirements; form 1096/1099’s, unsecured business property statements, alcohol tax and other corporate filings.
- Prepare quarterly tax distributions for shareholders and make the corresponding tax withholding payments.
- Provides analytical support to management relating to financial results and performance.
- Coordinates and prepares for annual audits with external independent auditors (including 401k audit).
- Protects corporate assets and maintains confidential information.
- Assists with accomplishing company and department objectives as requested/needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar accounting position. CPA preferred
- Private business sector experience preferred
- Must be solution oriented with an ability to prioritize tasks and work well in a fast paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Team player and ability to work cross functionally
- Excellent computer related skills with proficiency in MS Office, Navision and Dynamics AX 365.
- Expertise in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Ability to manage and meet deadlines
