Duties include researching relevant topics for stories, interviewing individuals for stories and creating new and engaging content. The Content Specialist will work collaboratively with Marketing and Communications staff and staff throughout the University to share and adapt content for various audiences. The Content Specialist will edit and proof content submitted by other writers and review external communications and marketing materials to ensure consistency in messaging and brand standards across the University. Duties may also include updating webpages in the University’s Content Management System, creating e-newsletters, and developing copy for ads, correspondence to external partners and presentations. Essential Duties

Job Function
  • Assist with development of marketing materials that enhance the university’s strong reputation
  • Draft, edit and execute both internal and external communications for Marketing and Communications staff and units throughout the university
  • Strong writing skills are critical. The Content Specialist will write and edit content that supports key university priorities around enrollment, retention, fundraising and alumni engagement
  • Share meaningful stories through written, electronic, web, visual and/or verbal communication
  • Assist in managing and enforcing the university’s brand strategy and visual identity guidelines across all communications
  • Assist with the University’s marketing approval process managed by UNF Marketing to ensure consistent branding and messaging throughout the university
  • Edit and update webpages and content on the University’s main content management system and other systems as needed
  • Prepare and edit UNF Marketing e-newsletters and edit e-communications from units throughout the University
  • Effectively collaborate with partners across the institution, develop relationships
throughout the university and identify the stories/messages that align with strategic priorities
  • Stay informed on general and high education marketing trends
  • Coordinate with other university communication to share best practices, branding strategies and visual identity
  • Provide quality service through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Marginal FunctionsMay assist with managing and tagging assets in the university’s digital asset management system. During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.
Required Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree and one year of experience directly related to the job functions or a high school diploma and five years of experience directly related to the job functions. Directly related college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Departmental RequirementsPreference shown to applicants who meet the required qualifications and also possess the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, advertising or related fields preferred
  • Two years (or equivalent) experience in marketing, communications, journalism or public relations preferred
  • Strong writing skills and demonstrated ability to create engaging content across target audiences
  • Demonstrate knowledge of (or ability to learn) Associated Press style
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word with experience in Adobe Creative Suite and have the ability to learn other specialized software packages as necessary
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Must work well independently and as a constructive member of a team
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from university campus
