The School of Social Work’s Goldsen Institute is an innovation hub that specializes is sexuality and gender research and is home to some of the first LGBTQ federally funded studies. The Institute utilizes ground-breaking research to create interventions to improve health, wellness, and longevity. The Goldsen Institute is dedicated to building a world where all ages thrive throughout their lives. Improvements in health, wellness, and longevity demand that we disrupt traditional research and intervention models, which necessitates new practices for how we live, work, and grow in our communities. To inspire significant scale changes, the Institute collaborates with UW faculty, research staff, students, and community members to work together to discover and share innovative tools and programs. As thought leaders we help shape the ideas that influence cultural and policy change for a better society. By fostering continuous dialogue, the Institute develops workable solutions for urgent issues confronting underserved populations to strengthen our global environment. We are looking for a creative and innovative communications and program coordination specialist to join our team.

The Goldsen Institute has an outstanding opportunity open for a Non-Permanent Communications Program Coordinator.

Position Responsibilities

  • Coordinate activities of Institute and ensure alignment with strategic planning goals.

  • Ensure consistent branding of all communications and materials using Goldsen Institute Brand guidelines and monitor and evaluate all material development and dissemination processes.

  • Develop and edit communication materials and coordinate the dissemination and support public promotion of Institute’s programs and materials via presentations, press releases, press events, website, newsletters, and others as

  • needed.
  • Develop and support social media campaigns across a variety of platforms.

  • Assist in promoting fundraising goals.

  • Plan, coordinate and support events, all-staff meetings, conferences, presentations, media interviews, pre-conferences, dissemination of findings, other engagement, and educational events.

  • Assist in gathering and synthesizing literature and information for materials, reports, manuscripts, and books, as needed.

  • Attend meetings and/or conferences as program representative.

  • Coordinate Institute calendaring, meeting agendas and minutes, and internal communications.

  • Interface with directors of each unit.

  • Proofread and edit materials such as reports, manuscripts, press releases, presentations, and organizational materials.


  • Faculty Director Support

  • Coordinate and support Institute and Director’s office, including communications, emails, calendaring, award letters/letters of recommendation, scheduling and travel.

  • Perform complex scheduling including independently prioritizing needs of Director and interfacing with staff, clients, and public.

  • Work with budget and operations coordinator to ensure timely processing of all Institute and Director expenditures.

  • Facilitating letters of reference, recommendation, nominations, support.

  • Account/File Management & Upkeep (i.e., Linked In, Calendly, Sharepoint folders, CV, bio, and out-of-office messaging).

  • Presentation facilitation – Collect appropriate information, submit required documentation, post-presentation follow-up.

  • Perform related duties as needed.



  • Required

    High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty

    OR

    Equivalent education/experience.

    Desired

    Bachelor’s degree

    OR

    Three years of experience in project coordination and/or communications, or equivalent education and experience.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Good use of technology, including social media, word processing, graphics, PPT, statistical, spreadsheet, SharePoint, and other data base and

  • editing software.
  • Ability to trouble shoot minor tech problems or work with others to resolve quickly.
