Departmental Overview

From ancient times to the present day, people around the globe have raised fundamental questions about life through the arts, literature and philosophy. In the Arts & Humanities Division (A&H), faculty and students explore the human experience across an exceptionally broad range of subjects. By studying the world's languages and cultures, students expand their horizons and prepare themselves for an increasingly multicultural world. Through rigorous exploration of complex philosophical arguments, students move beyond their own assumptions toward a deeper understanding of human life and its complexities. And discovery in the arts helps students open their imaginations to fresh perspectives on the world. The faculty in Arts & Humanities are leaders in their fields both as researchers, honored worldwide for their contributions to scholarship, and as teachers who challenge students to explore the deepest questions that shape their lives and our times. The Division is comprised of 19 Academic Departments and 16 associated centers and programs offering 31 undergraduate majors. There are 243 ladder faculty in the Division making it one of the largest and most diverse academic Divisions on campus.

Responsibilities

Serving in the Office of the Dean of Arts & Humanities, the divisional Communications and Advising Analyst will manage student engagement initiatives, develop outreach to new and prospective students, and work closely with divisional staff and academic advisors on advising programs, retention initiatives, and communications strategies. S/he will work with Undergraduate Major Advisors (UMAs) across the division and will serve as a student resource for the divisional Arts & Humanities (HUM) curriculum and the Digital Humanities (DigHum) minor.

Communications:
Create course marketing materials for HUM and DigHum;
Manage A&H social media accounts; work with departments on annual social media campaigns;
Showcase exceptional student work (e.g. Discovery projects, prize recipients) on social media channels and divisional webpages;
Work with Dean's Leadership Team and other student ambassadors;
Work with Admissions, participate in Yield Task Force, and support other outreach programs for parents, prospective students, and newly admitted A&H-intending students;
Develop and maintain student-facing websites (divisional A&H undergraduate and DigHum sites);
Work with advising staff to promote courses, course threads, minors, and electives;
Develop targeted outreach to A&H-inclined students outside of the division (e.g. promote language courses to business majors, publicize A&H courses to students in breadth courses);
Promote division-wide initiatives and opportunities (e.g. Discovery initiative).

Advising and Policy:
Serve as an advisor for HUM, the Digital Humanities Summer Minor, and other divisional programs (e.g. cross-divisional minors, Discovery initiative, course threads);
Identify and promote pathways from required courses and gateway courses (e.g. R&C, language courses, breadth courses) to A&H majors;
Maintain and create shared advising resources (e.g. Major Planning Tool, career preparedness resources); develop trainings and workshops for UMAs to address enrollment trends;
Coordinate participation in Golden Bears Advising, Cal Day, Major/Minor Fairs, etc;
Convene Arts & Humanities UMAs and L&S Arts & Humanities Neighborhood Advisors.

Student Events Support:
Organize an annual divisional welcome event for new A&H-intending students;
Coordinate co-curricular Compass Scholars Program;
Organize presentations and represent the division at student-facing events (e.g. Cal Day, Major/Minor Fairs, Golden Bears Orientation);
Coordinate with Development staff and the Career Center to invite speakers, organize career events, and identify internship opportunities.
Required Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of academic programs and advising.
Advanced analytical skills, including data analysis, problem identification, and ability to develop original solutions.
Thorough knowledge of or ability to quickly learn the divisional curriculum, both departmentally and inter-departmentally.
Thorough knowledge of college policies, procedures, and requirements.
Skills in judgment, reasoning, decision-making, and project management.
Supervisory skills to hire, train, and provide coaching and guidance to student workers and interns.
Leadership skills.
Interpersonal and multi-cultural competencies: knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.
Knowledge of FERPA and SIS.
BA and/or equivalent experience/training
Preferred Qualifications

MA and/or equivalent experience/training preferred.
Salary & Benefits

This is a monthly paid (exempt) position. Annual salary will be commensurate with experience.
