Commercial Loan Underwriter II -

Merchants Bank of Commerce has an immediate need for a Commercial Loan Underwriter II. The Commercial Loan Underwriter II is a mid-level position responsible for underwriting various types of commercial loans, including providing underwriting support to the Commercial Banking and Commercial Real Estate Officers and managing a portfolio of loans.
Primary Responsibilities include:

• Enter financial figures into appropriate programs to generate ratios, and examine data to determine credit worthiness. Compare items such as liquidity and profitability with other companies of same industry, size, and geographic location for commercial customers.
• Assist lenders with the loan process by analyzing the current credit and financial information of individuals or firms (e.g., credit reports, tax returns, financial statements, etc.) to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money.
• Underwrite the loan request and generate approval memorandums adhering to bank policy and procedures.
• Maintain acceptable turnaround times for processing.
• Clearly communicate loan decisions, terms and conditions to lending staff.
• Track and update tickler system; send financial request letters and perform maintenance.
• Review loan application packages for completeness.

Requirements of the position are a bachelor’s degree in business, finance or accounting, five (5) years of related experience in commercial underwriting in both C&I and CRE, or equivalent combination of education and experience. The Commercial Loan Underwriter II must maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, work accurately with close attention to detail, and have the ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks.

The successful Commercial Underwriter will also possess solid analytical skills, good Microsoft Office software skills, good written and oral communication skills, organizational and multi-tasking skills, problem-solving skills, a high degree of professionalism, and the ability to work independently and as part of a group.
