The Center for Alternative Sentencing & Employment Services (CASES) provides programs for individuals involved in or at high risk for involvement in the criminal justice system and operates one of only two outpatient mental health clinics (Nathaniel Clinic) in New York City specializing in the psychiatric care of this population. The Nathaniel Clinic also operates as a critical community provider in Central Harlem, where the rates of resident incarceration and psychiatric hospitalization are 300% and 47% higher than respective rates citywide. A core mission of the clinic and CASES is to address racial, economic, and health inequities in order to optimize every individual’s chance for their own success.

Job Description
  • Lead and support clinical staff; provide relevant trainings to staff (e.g. co-occurring disorders, motivational interviewing, etc.)
  • Ensure provision of evidence-based practices for youth and adults with behavioral health needs, including those who have been involved in the criminal justice system
  • Provide compassionate clinical treatment in accordance with the scope of practice and regulations governing Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics
  • Manage a specialized caseload of clinic clients who present with significant behavioral health needs, co-morbid conditions and/or complex presentations requiring collaboration with various partner providers
  • Provide recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, person/family-centered, and gender-responsive services; ensure provision of these services by all clinic staff
  • Use evidence-based counseling approaches to develop a rapport with clients and develop insight into specified need areas
  • Complete assessments, progress notes, and program data reporting as required
  • Support internal program auditing activities of progress notes, service referrals, treatment plans
  • Ensure services are person/family-centered, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed
  • Provide culturally competent services that are individualized to client needs and reflect the integration of race, ethnicity, culture, primary language, immigration status, developmental status, criminal justice status, sexuality, age, and gender
  • Provide crisis intervention services as deemed appropriate and participate in the 24-hour emergency phone coverage on rotating basis when needed

Qualifications
  • New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Psychologist
  • 1+ year of clinical supervision experience
  • Work alternate schedule to provider senior coverage (Monday through Friday, including 2 late nights a week 11-7)
  • Experience working with justice-involve individuals with behavioral health needs
  • Previous use of an electronic health record, preferably Qualifacts, CareLogic
  • Strong organizational, leadership, professional, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Therapist will be expected within six months of employment to receive the Integrated Mental Health/Addictions Treatment Training Certificate (IMHATT).
