General Summary/ Overview:

The Clinical Business Analyst I works with users to provide software support services. S/he will also work with users to understand clinical and business workflows, document functional requirements, execute test scripts and user acceptance testing.

The specifics associated with this role are described in the attached Position Summary.

Position Summary:

This role is primarily focused on the Epic Optime/Anesthesia application, with a secondary focus on Epic Cupid. The candidate will also be responsible for supporting for several internally developed applications that integrate with Epic.

This role supports clinical users of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Brigham, Women’s Faulkner Hospital, Harbor Medical Associates and Foxborough procedural areas. The candidate will act as a key liaison between the operational and clinical community and Enterprise teams. The Clinical Business Analyst will use their knowledge of application functionality, system processes and clinical workflows to provide exceptional customer support and troubleshooting. Support consists of telephone support, along with classroom, and at-the-elbow support in patient care areas.

Under the direction of the Manager for Brigham Health Clinical Departmental Information Systems, the individual in this role will:

  • Primarily function in a support-based role working with end-users through day, overnight and weekend call on a rotating basis. The primary application supported will be Epic Optime/Anesthesia. Secondary applications supported include Epic Cupid, Reporting Workbench and any complementary/vendor applications supported by the Departmental team.
  • Provide in-person support at BWH/BWF main campuses and distributed offsite locations.
  • Provide off hours (weekends and/or evenings) on-site support multiple times per year for Epic upgrades and other organizational project “Go-Lives”
  • S/he must be able to create and maintain healthy working relationships with the end users, leadership, and satellite staff
  • Create, or update, change related training and communication materials as it relates to Epic Optime/Anesthesia application changes
  • Document and analyze business processes and drive business process improvement workflows
  • Functional and technical requirements definition
  • System testing/quality assurance
  • Identify system and related operational issues and provide recommended solutions

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support and educate users of on the use of clinical and complementary applications. Prepare end-user training materials.
  • Identify and resolve issues, escalating as needed for timely resolution.
  • Provide high quality service to users, according to defined service level agreements.
  • Create and run reports as needed using tools such as Epic Reporting Workbench.
  • Document and analyze business processes and workflows to help drive business process improvements and ensure accuate system configuration.
  • Produces specification documents with guidance from senior staff.
  • Assist with developing and executing user acceptance testing plans including creation of test cases.
  • Communicate status of various team efforts to leadership and other stakeholders, including preparing presentations in collaboration with senior staff.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss team and project activities, issues, changes, and communications.
  • Assist in identifying and recommending best practices for business analysis, training and end user support functions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Information Technology, Healthcare or a related field required
  • Three or more years of healthcare information technology experience with knowledge of clinical systems
  • Epic Certification desired or must obtain Epic training as outlined by program requirement
  • A combination of education and experience may be substituted for requirements

Skills/Abilities/Competencies:

  • Experience providing training and support to end users, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn and understand clinical workflows
  • Ability to effectively translate business requirements to functional requirements
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical staff
  • Requires minimal direction from leadership and possesses the ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to effectively conduct small meetings, both formal and informal
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including facilitation and presentation
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office365 and other popular office productivity solutions

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No direct reports; may indirectly provide leadership and guidance to less seasoned and new staff

Fiscal Responsibility:

  • No direct budgetary responsibility
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Mass General Brigham resources

Working Conditions:

  • Standard office environment with possible local travel to Mass General Brigham sites. May also require travel for training.
  • On-call coverage expected as business needs dictate.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear; use hands to finger; handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop; kneel; or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.
