Job Description

Full Time, Days.

Pay range is between $25.11-$37.67/hr depending on years of relevant and like experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for managing daily incoming phone calls from assigned physician’s patients and caregivers of patients, including family and professional, established sources of care (e.g. home health agencies, pharmacies, social service agencies, nursing homes, etc.). Problem solves care issues and appropriate sources of medical expertise and provides a prompt courteous response to questions and concerns. May need to perform other duties than assigned (will perform those duties for which he/she has demonstrated competency). Assist providers with patient care when needed. Works directly with assigned physician during clinic time.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education or Formal Training

Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)

  • Colorado RN license in good standing.
  • BLS required within the conditional period.
  • ACLS certification required by the end of conditional period.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.
  • Knowledge of human growth and development to inform and guide interaction with and care for patients ages newborn to geriatric.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of CLIA, OSHA, Joint Commission and Corporate Compliance regulations.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Skill in using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interaction with care for patients, newborn to geriatric.
  • Skill in maintaining the principles and applying and modifying methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going care to call patients.
  • Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • Skill in taking vital signs
  • Skill in administering and assisting with a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
  • Skill in maintaining patient records by careful documentation and recording test results.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining department quality improvement.
  • Skill in working effectively with patients and their representatives, managers, staff, physicians, other hospital departments, outside agencies and the public.

Experience

One to two years experience in clinic setting preferred.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

  • Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal and other conditions common to a clinic environment, including blood and body fluids.
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Involves standing and walking.
  • Occasionally assists lifting and carrying patients weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consistent and on time attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Assess needs, problems and conditions of triage patients by following procedures and guidelines established for telephone triage.
  • Promptly triages patient phone calls and messages distinguishing between emergency and non-emergency and facilitating appropriate care.
  • Collaborates with other health professionals regarding patient’s plan of care.
  • Handles daily patient calls related to patient care and conducts follow-up care as necessary.
  • Accurately documents patient’s condition, progress and care provided.
  • Documentation by the RN is timely, accurate and follows Boulder Heart guidelines.
  • Responds to emergent situations throughout the clinic.
  • Assists physician with daily duties of hospital and clinic practice.
  • Acts as a resource for Medical Assistants and other staff.
  • Coordinates patient tests and procedures. Educates patient as to test guidelines for both hospital and clinic procedures.
