POSITION PURPOSE

The Classroom Teaching Assistant assists the Classroom Lead Teacher in carrying out the daily lesson plan and implementing the Individualized Treatment Plan (ITP) for each child.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & BASIC DUTIES

1. Works directly under the supervision of the Classroom Lead Teacher.

2. Participates in the assessment of each EIDT child in his/her classroom using the proper assessment tool as directed by the Classroom Lead Teacher.

3. Participates in the implementation of the Individualized Treatment Plan (ITP) to ensure the maximum treatment of the patients served.

4. Participates in the development of daily lesson plans as directed by the Classroom Lead Teacher.

5. Participates in completion of classroom billing via deTASO.

6. Assists in maintaining classroom supplies.

7. Maintains visual supervision of the children at all times.

8. Ensures a positive emotional climate for the children by showing respect to children and adults through a willingness to help others, by maintaining harmonious interpersonal relations, and through use of appropriate and approved discipline techniques under the guidance of the ECDS or Assistant Director.

9. Assists in maintaining an environment conducive to preventative discipline.

10. Speaks in a well-modulated, pleasant, and caring voice to children, parents and staff.

11. Attends and actively participates in job-related center functions.

12. Represents the program to parents, visitors, and the public in a positive way.

13. Maintains a clean, safe, healthy, and sanitary learning environment for children by working under the supervision of the ECDS or Assistant Director to ensure that children are kept clean, clothing is changed when necessary, and toys and other materials are disinfected each day.

14. During periods of physical activity, ensures that active involvement is maintained with children to promote gross and fine motor development.

15. Immediately reports any information regarding health and safety concerns to the Assistant Director or Nurse.

16. Completes 15 hours of relevant and approved in-service trainings per fiscal year.

17. Is familiar with the company’s policies, procedures and guidelines, as well as those requirements set forth by regulatory agencies, including EIDT, AR Child Care Licensing, and the AR Health Department.

18. Displays concern for the rights of children and families served by the clinic.

19. Reports for work dressed appropriately and complies with company policies regarding dress code.

20. Ensures confidentiality of children and employee information. Responds to internal and external requests for information according to clinic policy.

21. Assists the ECDS or Assistant Director with documentation.

22. May be asked to perform some housekeeping/janitorial functions.

23. May perform other related and non-related duties, as assigned.

24. Maintains regular and punctual attendance.

25. Completes tasks in a timely manner.

Education/ Certification:?

High school diploma or equivalent.?

CDA preferred.

Experience/ Knowledge required:?

Prefer at least one year of successful experience in a classroom setting working with developmentally at-risk children or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills/ Abilities:?

Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide variety of people.?

Must be able to work with children birth to age 7 and families who are at risk.?

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.?

Ability to handle multiple tasks in a very busy environment.?

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.?

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and stoop, twist, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
