Certified Surgical Technologist - Labor and Delivery

HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe is a tertiary acute care 342 bed hospital that has been serving the community for more than 75 years. It provides a 24-hour designated Level II trauma center, Level III neonatal intensive care unit, cardiac care services, women’s center, daVinci robotic surgery, neurosciences, pediatric care, rehabilitation therapy, sleep center, radiology, hyperbaric medicine, diagnostic/imaging services, and wound care facility.

HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe is affiliated with HCA Houston Healthcare, part of the HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division. The division is a comprehensive network of hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, emergency centers and diagnostic imaging facilities in greater Houston, Corpus Christi and South Texas. Facilities include: 17 hospitals, nine ambulatory care centers, 13 off-campus emergency centers, and a regional transfer center.

What you will do in this role:

  • The Certified Surgical Scrub Technician working in this position assures a safe and therapeutic environment for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients undergoing surgical procedures.


  • Responsible for implementing and evaluating the care for assigned patients.

  • Works as a leader in the department.

  • Responsible for meeting AORN Standards of Practice for the L&D. Responsible for participating in care.

  • Appropriately carries out scrub activities during procedures to ensure medical and surgical asepsis and safety of patient.

  • Assists in cleaning of rooms between cases and at the end of the schedule and assists in lifting and transporting patients, as needed.

  • Assists in preparation of specimens, operation of equipment, and sterilization and/or disinfection of equipment and assists in preparation and aftercare of equipment and supplies.

  • Maintains supplies as needed.

  • Accountable for maintaining and improving own job knowledge and skills. Works closely with professional and non-professional employees of the hospital, and with physicians, patients, and their families.

  • Lead in-services and precept new scrub and scrub tech students.

  • Actively participate in departmental and house wide performance improvement activities.

  • Participate in Core Measures initiative and assists in data collection as directed by Management

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited institution (CAAHEP or ABHES) or complete a training program through one of the branches of the armed forces unless being grandfathered (employed before September 1, 2009 as a Surgical Technologist).
What qualifications you will need:

  • CST licensure through NBSTSA or NCCT unless being grandfathered

  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification required


  • Demonstrated current clinical competence, as outlined in the appropriate orientation checklist and knowledge of surgical aseptic techniques


  • Two plus years’ experience as a scrub technician
