Job Description

Certified Nursing Assistant II
  • Position is a Health Care Technician II located at Alexander Correctional Institution in Taylorsville, which houses approximately 1200.
  • The Health Care Technician II will participate in the delivery of health services for the offender population in accordance with the NC Nurse Practice Act and DPS Prisons Health Services Policy and Procedure.
  • The Health Care Technician II will be responsible for all aspects of medication administration to include transcribing orders, ordering and storing medications and supplies, administering medication and treatments, documentation of medication administration and treatment, observing and reporting medication effectiveness, side effects, and reinforcing patient education provided by the nurse and/or physician.
  • The Health Care Technician II will provide additional nursing skills, as declared by the licensure.
  • The Health Care Technician II must successfully complete the Medication Technician course and competency evaluation, mandated by the Department of Public Safety, once employed.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Certified by the Board of Nursing as a Nursing Assistant II.
  • Must possess an active NAI that is listed on the NC Nursing Assistant Registry (NCNAR.org) in addition to their CNAII certification through the NCBON.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of related work
experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Condition for
Continued Employment. As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of
Health Service Regulation. As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
