Job Summary

Metropolitan State University, Minnesota’s public, urban university, and recipient of the 2019 Insight into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire an Inventory Coordinator. This is a part-time position within the Financial Management division.

This position maintains all university inventory. Under limited supervision, provide capital asset to support six Metropolitan State University campuses. Maintain complete and accurate capital asset records using the Minnesota State Integrated Statewide Records System (ISRS) and e-procurement systems. Develop and modify procedures to improve the efficiency of operations. Collect and exchange information and respond to inquiries from internal and external customers. Explain complicated procedures and resolve conflicts. This position ensures all internal controls are in place. It is expected that this position knows the receiving process and is open to help out if a need arises.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose application materials clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position:

  • A high degree of self-motivation and the ability to function independently to plan and achieve inventory goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of English sufficient to fluently speak, read, understand and respond to a variety of written and spoken communications, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices sufficient to apply them to specialized accounting activities and to accurately record, post and code information.
  • Math skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals; calculate percentages; and use simple formulas.
  • Bookkeeping practices and procedures sufficient to analyze financial transactions and assign them to specific accounts.
  • Experience with software such as Microsoft Office Suit including spreadsheet and word processing applications.
  • Skill in customer service sufficient to effectively communicate and elicit information with tact and diplomacy in difficult situations; ability to work well under deadlines and to multitask.
  • Ability to handle physical tasks such as occasionally lifting and moving materials, supplies, computer related equipment and office or classroom equipment and furniture, along with the use of push carts and two-wheel carts.
  • A valid Minnesota driver license and sufficiently clean driving record to meet State risk management requirements for work related driving.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Computerized inventory control systems sufficient to evaluate the current system and recommend system changes, maintain and update inventories or equipment, supplies and commodities.

  • Experience using Minnesota State inventory, procurement and accounting systems.

  • Experience applying State of Minnesota procurement law and Minnesota State Board Policies and System Procedures.

Physical Requirements

This position requires occasional transporting such articles as supplies, computer equipment, tables, chairs, or heavier materials with help from others and/or transporting light objects frequently. This position may require movement throughout the buildings to a significant degree.
