Job Description
Overview: The responsible for Functioning as a member of the healthcare team performing clinical duties which are required for proper surgical instrumentation processing. This position reports: Administrator Team Lead RN
Responsibilities:
  • Accountable for cleaning and sterilization processes for all instrumentation and disposables in the Center.
  • Proficient in operating the instrument washer, ultrasonic cleaner, Steris, Sterrad and the autoclave.
  • Keeps proper records for all sterilization processes in the Center.
  • Washes, rinses, milks, and sterilizes instruments.
  • Performs biological testing as recommended following AAMI recommendations/guidelines.
  • Performs QA monitoring for all sterilization procedures, ensuring policies are followed.
  • Ensures proper preventative maintenance is performed on all sterilization equipment. Interacts with maintenance personnel to ensure service provided in a timely fashion and when equipment is taken out of service.
  • Ensures that all broken instruments are repaired and all dull instruments are sharpened by the proper vendor in a timely fashion.
  • Works in both the Soiled and Clean Utility rooms, using proper personal protective equipment appropriately.
  • Assists in picking of cases for the day when needed.
  • Transports instrumentation to and from the Central Supply area when needed.
  • Ensures necessary supplies for sterilization are stocked, provides inventory sheets to Team Lead
  • Operates all sterilization equipment as recommended by the manufacturer and maintains manufacturer instructions for proper processing instruments and/or equipment.
Qualifications:
  • High school or equivalent.
  • Sterile Processing Certification
  • Minimum one year of experience in a related position preferred, but not required.
  • Good command of the English language.
  • Ability to work well with physicians, employees, patients, and others.
  • Sterile Techniques, Instrument identification, Surgical Procedures and equipment
  • Strong attention to detail when setting up equipment, checking stock and setting up instruments for cases
  • Ability to take direction
  • Operation of Sterilization Equipment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Good computer software skills and knowledge
