Position Summary The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is a multi-division department within the UNM School of Medicine. We provide excellent, innovative education to residents, medical students, and health professionals; the highest quality mental health care to the citizens of New Mexico; and pursue outstanding multidisciplinary research that helps solve important health problems.

The Division of Community Behavioral Health (CBH), within the broader Department of Psychiatry, is seeking a self-motivated individual to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary team. The mission of CBH is to address behavioral health care disparities through: health services research and evaluation; training and workforce development; and through increasing access to quality behavioral health services that are holistic, cost-effective and provided with respect to unique cultures and communities.

CBH is seeking a Caseworker to support our EARLY program and other early psychosis initiatives. Duties include, but are not limited to: providing services and resources to individuals/families necessary to promote rehabilitation, recovery, and resiliency; interviewing clients and gathering information/data; identifying and addressing individual and family strengths and barriers; supporting individuals and families in crisis; providing interventions and supporting community activities that address specific goals in the following areas: independent living, learning, housing, wellness, socialization, education, employment, and recreation.; assisting with accessing resources and communications and provide referrals; offering information, teaching skills and classes as needed.

This position requires a commitment to helping others and a high level of compassion, empathy and self-awareness; a collaborative nature to work with a multidisciplinary team; resourcefulness, responsiveness and flexibility; superb organizational and communication/ relationship building skills. Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.


Preferred Qualifications Certified Peer Support Worker, or willingness to pursue CPSW certification if applicable
Familiarity with first episode psychosis and behavioral health related issues
Mental health training and extensive knowledge of community resources
Experience working with youth and families in crisis
Experience providing outreach, support and training
