At this level, a Computer Aided Drafter/Designer is proficient in preparation of construction drawings and documents for multiple systems, including natural gas transmission and distribution pipelines, substation, underground, and overhead electrical projects including physical layouts, elevations, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Incumbents have a solid understanding of project requirements. This role works with teams of designers and engineers to apply information to electronic drawing files.Responsibilities:

- Use computer-aided drafting tools such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Revit, as well as technical handbooks, utility standards, tables, and calculators
- Train others in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D and handbooks or standards
- Confer with design engineers and other staff members to resolve problems and create construction documents
- Prepare quantity take-offs in a professional and organized manner
- Review completed construction drawings for accuracy and in conformance with the applicable standards and regulations
- Work under the direction of senior designers and engineers
- Meet client and NV5’s requirements and standard
- Manage and maintain design records and files
- Complete as-built drawings
- Fulfill assignments that require independent judgment and evaluation
- Able to work independently with minimal or no supervision
- Develop career via peer-learning through sharing of knowledge with other experienced designers and engineers
- Mentor other drafter/designers
- Minimal travel to client sites as needed (expected to be no more than 20% of time)
- 4+ years of AutoCAD Civil 3D experience
- At least 2 years of experience working in an engineering environment
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Positive attitude, able to collaboratively work with others
- Valid driver’s license
- Proficient using MS Office Suite and other relevant software
- Knowledgeable of relevant industry standards for design and construction
- Certifications/Licenses:
- Certificate of Training in technical drafting or equivalent work in engineering environment
- Associate’s degree in relevant field
- Experience drafting utility drawings
- Ability to work on small design tasks
- Participate in technical and professional societies
- Knowledge of design programs
- Metrics
- Based on timely, accurate completion of work
- Drafter III/CAD Technician III
- Attends in-house seminars and educational opportunities outside of the offices
- Physical Demands:
- This position requires sitting for extensive periods of time
- Must be able to visually interpret complex drawings
