ASG/Attwood Corporation, a Brunswick Company, is the world’s leading manufacturer of marine accessories for the boating industry, including a wide range of seating, hardware, fuel systems, navigational lighting, pumps, and other electro-mechanical components.

We are seeking a CAD Designer to join our Lowell, MI, team. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to work with engineering to create parametric CAD models, drawings w/dimensions & GD&T, PDF's from CAD prints, schedule drawing and design reviews, release files in Teamcenter,
maintain and revise existing CAD drawings & models, import and export data from various CAD formats, modify and/or recreate models from un-parametric (dumb) solids or surfaces, and create developmental CAD data, sections, jpegs, & step files.

CAD Designer II

Technical Specialty

  • Advanced modeling in Solidworks 2019 with proficiency in surfacing: assembly; parts; applying draft for texture, text, logo’s, etc.
  • Class “B” surfacing techniques and renderings in Solidworks
  • Modify and/or recreate models from un-parametric (dumb) solids and surfaces
  • Create developmental CAD data, sections, jpegs, & step files
  • Prepares and maintains detailed design drawings with basic GD&T, schematics or specifications typically using Solidworks, or NX, CAD software
  • Import and export data from various CAD formats
  • Maintain and revise existing CAD drawings & models in Solidworks
  • Prefer experience with NX9(Unigraphics) or higher: solid modeling, and drafting modules
  • Other computer skills; Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint

Technical Administration

  • Teamcenter Proficiency: pull numbers; release procedures; and create - Items, Item Revisions, PDF’s, XL, Word, Zip, and Datasets – models and drawings
  • Fill out Item Master form in Teamcenter
  • Learn and use Attwood CAD & Drafting standards

Technical Support

  • Works closely with design originators (e.g., engineers, designers) to resolve design details or discrepancies, and to prepare drawings of unusual, complex, or original designs. These require a high degree of precision using CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) equipment
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes: injection molding; blow molding; stamping; draft angles, rib to wall ratio, minimum radii, etc…
  • Provides technical support to engineers, and other departments, in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement or product development

Technical Initiative

  • Ability to assist with engineering of parts and assemblies
  • Ability to create and edit CAD models for rapid prototype 3d fabrication: DFM printing; SLA; etc…
  • Ability to conceptualize and model build fixtures and check gages
  • Schedule drawing and design reviews
  • Develops and maintains drafting standards and procedures

Career Band

  • Minimum 5 Years design engineer experience
  • Applies experience and skills to complete assigned work within own area of expertise
  • Works with a moderate degree of supervision

Requirements:

  • A minimum 5 Years CAD design experience, excluding internships. (All 5 years of CAD designer experience do not need to be in Solidworks, however the surfacing expertise does need to be in SW.
  • Advanced modeling in Solidworks 2019: assembly; parts; applying draft for texture, text, logo’s, etc.
  • Surfacing techniques and renderings in Solidworks: boundary; loft style surfaces; or xShape within 3D Sculptor
  • Maintain and revise existing CAD drawings & models in Solidworks
  • Import and export data from various CAD formats
  • Modify and recreate models from un-parametric (dumb) solids and surfaces
  • Prepares and maintains detailed design drawings with basic GD&T, schematics or specifications using Solidworks
  • Basic computer skills; Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint
  • Works well within a design team: collaboration to resolve design issues; understands and takes direction from engineers; communicates well
  • Non-engineering candidates
