Job Description

Scope/Purpose of the Position

The Business Architect works with client and vendors to research problems, gathers requirements, plans solutions, recommends applications and systems, coordinates development, assists in testing, supports the development of training and implementation material, participates in the implementation, and provides post-implementation support with minimal supervision. As well as the analytical skill of a Business Analyst, the Business Architect is expected to possess system matter expertise related to both the mortgage operations and systems they will solution for.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Project Management
    • Manage outstanding application issues by working with the users to provide background information at a level of detail sufficient to prioritize, classify, dispatch, inform and close the Problem Report.
    • Document the business case and cost / benefit of new business requests.
    • Develop relationships with subject matter experts (SME).
    • Elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops and JAD sessions to produce all necessary functional requirements.
    • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs.
    • Support testing to ensure that project deliverables are met.
  • Communication
    • Communicate application problems and issue to key stakeholders, including management and development teams.
    • Acts as a liaison between the business units, external clients and technology teams.
    • Provides timely status updates to management.
  • Training
    • Support the training department by training the trainer or technical support staff to use systems
    • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops and training events and reviewing professional publications.
    • Monitors the industry to gain knowledge and understanding of emerging technologies.to maintain industry competitiveness.
  • Design
    • Design components, screen layouts, graphical user interfaces, printed outputs and interfaces with other systems.
    • Determines relevance and potential value of new technologies to support business objectives and strategy.

Work Experience and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with troubleshooting IT principles, methodologies, and issue resolution techniques.
  • Ability to create systematic and consistent requirements specifications in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Working technical knowledge of multi-tier web applications.
  • Problem solving ability to analyze and challenge conventional thought processes and use experience and/or intuition to create pragmatic solutions.
  • Demonstrate a flexible mindset by adapting to and helping drive change.
  • Committed to taking responsibility and ownership for agreed actions and delivery.
  • Demonstrating a positive attitude and standing firm.
  • Basic understanding of SQL or similar analytical toolset.

  • Intermediate level of computer skills and the ability to function in a windows environment utilizing Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Professional and effective interpersonal skills; Solid decision-making skills with display of professionalism in maintaining confidentiality. Ability to build strong relationships with internal business partners to achieve success.
  • Ability to rapidly acquire detailed knowledge of departmental policies, practices and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Finance, or Information Systems, preferred, or seven (7) years' experience as a business analyst in the mortgage industry.
  • Five-seven (5-7) years' experience as a business analyst in the mortgage industry.
  • Five-seven (5-7) years' of experience with origination, fulfillment and back office processes in business and technical requirements, analysis, elicitations, modeling, verification, and methodology development.
