The Role

Reporting to the MD Business Operations who is accountable for active oversight of a group of Portfolio Companies (PCs)of the Brookfield Private Equity Group, the Executive, Business Operations is an active member of the Business Operations team, addressing key issues, facilitating processes and actively managing specific objectives to provide oversight to a Portfolio Company, or Companies.


This role will actively engage and collaborate with a cross section of Portfolio Companies covering a broad range of industries to principally identify and establish commercial (market development and sales) strategies and provide insights into market conditions. You will support the development of commercial strategies for new product and service offerings to maximize profitability and deliver service line value propositions which translate into value based selling strategies within the PCs. Additionally, you will provide mentoring and support to our private equity team and to portfolio company functional leadership as the in-house expert on Commercial Operations. In addition, you will be expected to be willing to expand your skills and ability to act as a generalist, willing and able to assist BAM PE professionals and PC management team members in driving value creation projects across the full spectrum of functional areas including operations, organizational change, IT/carve out support, project management, etc.


Key Accountabilities

  • Leads and coordinates commercial due diligence of target opportunities. Coordinates the commercial components of the underwriting, value creation plan. Identifies and manages the necessary external specialty advisors necessary to execute diligence (if required)
  • Participate and lead other value streams of diligence and execution as required. Draws upon solid cross functional experience across business functions to supplement other workstreams (operations, sales, marketing, analytics, etc.)
  • Ensure transformational activities and best practices are developed, implemented and on-track to reach financial objectives as part of the underwriting and value creation plans
  • Enable business growth, and streamline processes, controls, systems, and policies across commercial functions within PCs
  • Ensure clear strategies are in place, comparing to industry or internal benchmarks for best in class commercial performance
  • Identify and support critical portfolio company key accounts as required
  • Work directly with portfolio company leadership to ensure the skills and competency development of personnel, including training and knowledge management.
  • Mentor, coach and develop portfolio company commercial and sales leadership and Brookfield team member capabilities in commercial and sales best practices.
  • Review key customer accounts and the contract strategies for those accounts.
  • Evaluates technology and data platforms utilized to drive commercial decision making and ensure there is a strategy and capability to leverage.
  • Partner with IT and other stakeholders, such as marketing intelligence, functionally oversees development and deployment of future CRM system revisions and upgrades and potential other forward-looking enabling technologies and related implementation roadmap.
  • Support and reinforce global sales disciplines. Participate in Strategic Account Reviews, growth reviews, and other discussions to help improve application of tools and processes.
  • Direct the development of sales performance dashboards. Develop performance measurement guidelines, communication, and tools to monitor PC commercial performance
  • Oversees the development of commercial excellence processes, tools, and enabling technologies.
  • Identify and share best business practices across portfolio companies.
  • Support the development of specialized programs to acquire new business and improve existing business with emphasis on pricing, billing, product line variation, warranty adjustments and other promotional considerations within PCs.


Candidate Profile

Our ideal candidate is strategically and organizationally savvy, financially astute, detail focused and demonstrates excellent business judgment. Direct and insightful in approach, s/he possesses the interpersonal skills to quickly gain the respect and support from the management teams and independent directors at the portfolio companies that the Brookfield Private Equity Group acquires.


  • Top academic credentials: MBA preferred
  • 15+ years of experience in a broad range of commercial and sales leadership functions with most of the experience spent in progressively responsible leadership positions. Experience in a complex global environment, Sales, sales management, sales operations, and business analytics (implementation, tracking, reporting) strongly preferred.
  • 1-3 years of CRM experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce.com or other CRM platforms desired.
  • Preferred professional certification: eg. IACCM - CONTRACT & COMMERCIAL MANAGEMENT (CCM) or equivalent
  • Strong leadership skills with strategic and creative mindset
  • An interest in expanding her/his skill set and broader functional area knowledge, towards becoming general management / fully “P&L capable”
  • Team player at executive levels to collaborate across a broad cross section of industry and sectors
  • Strong negotiation, contracting, operational and business skills
  • Proven track record of delivering significant top line growth, and operating savings and other value-added results to a global enterprise.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change and manage organizational and high-level process changes including commercial area restructuring.
  • Familiarity with federal, local, corporate, and global regulations to ensure compliance
  • Excellent communication and listening skills; ability to convey a compelling and engaging vision of change for supply chain/procurement across a broad cross section of industries and sectors
  • Must be adaptive, flexible, and able to function effectively in a highly complex global environment with a proven ability to multi-task within a fast-paced environment
  • Technologically adept with demonstrated ability to learn systems and processes quickly
  • Strong leadership skills with supervisory experience in a highly results oriented environment. Ability to influence without authority and work effectively across organizational boundaries (regions and functions).
  • Demonstrated strong business / financial acumen with the ability to provide viable solutions to business leaders to support achievement of their business commitments
  • Strategic and systemic thinker with the ability to take a big picture approach to develop innovative strategies that support and balance both near and long-term objectives for the business
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills (ability to correspond comfortably and professionally through written and verbal communication with a variety of team members and stakeholders)
  • Ability to build trust with others and demonstrate high level of professionalism and integrity
  • Ability to quickly learn and adopt new concepts and technologies
