We are seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst with insurance/product management experience excited to build and work with tools / models that drive our profit and loss analytics for the property line of business in our Product Management Center for Excellence. This role will report directly to the head of our Property CW Analytics Tools and Insights Senior Manager.

The Business Intelligence Analyst is part of the Product Management team and will work cross functionally within Product Management on a regular basis to design and build financial and operational models and tools to report on and analyze performance and influence product improvements. Strong candidates are collaborative, curious, have a passion for working with data, problem solvers with have strong quantitative acumen, will demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills. This position offers an excellent opportunity to interact with a variety of departments in the organization (Government Affairs, Compliance, IT Leadership, Partner Management, Operations, Claims, etc.) and the broader American Family community.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

Contribute to the development and streamlining of new tools: Create, maintain, and improve reporting and analytical tools (including dashboards) for countrywide and State insights.

  • Create a streamlined suite of standard reports (pivot tools, exhibit support, dashboards) leveraging the GCP (Google Cloud Platform) to report on operational performance (Quote flow, Policy Attribution, Retention, Premium and Growth, Loss and Combined Ratios)

  • Build tools to enable analysts and state management to better support underwriting decisions (leakage reports, Day 1 implementation monitoring, mix of business reports, state deep dives)

  • Streamline data visualization best practices (Tableau, Power BI, Excel, Google Sheets) for reporting and communicating operational results

Product Insights: Deliver operational insights to achieve key performance indicators through analysis of the drivers of profitability, including production, retention, average premium, frequency/severity trends, loss ratios, and other data. Recommend actions to achieve profitability and growth goals. Perform modeling, “what-if’, scenarios on production, premium, and loss trends.

Monthly / Quarterly Financial Reporting assist in the project management and creation of the monthly and quarterly reporting on Property Business results, enabling variance analysis to be performed on a countrywide basis, understand peril drivers, and claims and sales performance.

Requirements

Relevant Experience: A minimum of 4 years of professional experience, ideally including work in Property & Casualty insurance.

Educational Credentials: A bachelor’s degree and quantitative analytical knowledge is required; a graduate degree and/or CPCU designation is preferred, but not required.

Entrepreneurial Mindset: A self-starter who can identify business opportunities, develop a product plan to capitalize on those opportunities, and successfully implement the plan.

Structured & Logical Thinking: The ability to identify and define business problems and issues, and develop strategic, analytical, and financial frameworks to conduct analyses.

Analytical Rigor: Analyze state performance, identify additional areas of research, and recommend improvements.

Powerful Communication: The ability to communicate effectively and succinctly across a variety of media.

Team Player: The candidate is collaborative, and able to work well as part of a team.

Software Experience: Subject matter expertise in the areas of SQL, SAS, R, Python, Tableau, and/or other programming/data query/reporting knowledge, in addition, intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel is required

The candidate selected for this position will be a creative, out-of-the-box thinker who is intellectually curious with a demonstrated interest in learning. This person will also need to be a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual who can easily function in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment. He/she must have a passion for working with big data, and building simple, visual tools and reports to analyze results. Be accustomed to working on multiple tasks in parallel and committed to meeting deadlines, including some with short time frames. This professional must demonstrate strong leadership skills, including the ability to gain credibility with and influence both team members and management.
