Summary description:
The Business Analyst, Corporate Actions will be responsible for performing daily tasks related to reconciling and processing corporate events on a total return swap book of business across a growing list of prime brokers. This position is in the Fund Accounting Oversight organization and will interface with external fund accounting services and custodians as well as several internal groups such as Investments, Trading, Settlements, Collateral Services, Pricing, Portfolio Reporting and Security Reference Data Administration teams. The Business Analyst will report to the Sr. Business Analyst, Corporate Actions and will interact with senior members of Putnam’s management team, with opportunities to contribute in a very meaningful way.
Corporate Actions plays an integral part in the management of securities. It is a vital link necessary to ensure that proper and timely action is taken by the portfolio managers, the custodian banks, and the fund accounting group, to ensure an accurate reflection of a fund's holding.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Maximizing the automation of corporate action processing for fund accounting
  • Researching and validating corporate actions information from various vendors and sources to determine the level of automation that can be achieved
  • Managing CAPS (internal system to Putnam) to determine account entitlements and query holdings for research purposes
  • Daily reconcilement of lot level accruals, spreads, notional values across several prime brokers
  • Lead processing of corporate action events on internal trading and accounting system; field questions from external custodian/clients pertaining to any corporate action messaging distributed outside of Putnam
  • Partner with Digital Technology to build out necessary enhancements to support the business
  • Coordinate escalated operational issues and ensure proper follow-up; expedite sensitive operational issues effectively while taking steps to prevent future problems
  • Monitor department workflow and operating practices to ensure compliance with department standards and business requirements; recognize business issues and identify impact on other business units within Putnam, assessing urgency of issues and facilitating timely resolutions
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge of technical Custody and Accounting operations and Putnam’s products, services, policies
  • Effectively communicate appropriate facts and issues to the business leader/associates
Qualifications and Required Skill Sets:
  • Prior industry experience required with in-depth knowledge of Corporate Actions
  • Experience with Trade Settlement and OTC Derivative Processing functions required
  • Exceptional client relationship management skills with both internal and external partners
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as effective time management skills and the ability to work in a high pressure, deadline-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Project management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree, with 3+ years directly related work/industry/corporate actions experience; mutual fund accounting work experience strongly preferred
