Brokerage Specialist

Responsible for the proficient management of shipments for numerous transactional based customers by establishing and maintaining relationships with a variety of transportation providers

Responsibilities

Carrying out the Company’s organizational values and operating in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and Company policies are required functions. Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Develop and manage the business and service relationship with numerous customers to ensure their specific requirements; including service level expectations, commodity handling, facility protocol and hours of operations are understood and complied with.
• Efficiently manage shipments by establishing relationships and accurately on-boarding and qualifying a variety of transportation providers with capabilities to provide numerous modes including Over the Road (OTR), Rail, Ocean and Air.
• Negotiate rates with a variety of transportation providers.
• Understand and apply current transportation rates allowing for fair and firm negotiations with carriers and customers.
• Actively monitor shipments to ensure safe and timely delivery while complying with all State and Federal regulations and Ruan company policies.
• Provide outstanding customer service by handling and responding to all customer inquiries - timely and accurately.
• Investigate and proficiently resolve all shipment related issues to ensure on-time pickup and delivery.
• Establish strong working relationships amongst co-workers and other Ruan operations including Integrated Solutions, Transport Terminals and RDAS to leverage capacity, improve service and maximize profitability.
• Perform functions and support the activity of other operations as necessary.
• Sell Ruan service offerings which includes prospecting as time permits.
• Perform other job- related duties and special projects as required.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics/Transportation/Business or equivalent work experience; 1-2 years of experience in transportation or logistics industry involving dispatch and customer service.
• Must be able to commit to Ruan’s value statement by acting with integrity in everything we do.
• Must be able to meet behavioral expectations and perform in alignment with our guiding principles: Safety, People, Customer Performance and Continuous Improvement.
• Employee must have vast knowledge of the DOT rules and regulations.
• Must have strong computer skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and ability to learn related transportation software.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and prioritize workload in a multi-task environment.
• Must have good customer service and relationship building skills.
• Must have strong verbal and written communication and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of people.
