Location: La Quinta Library

The City of La Quinta is nestled between the Santa Rosa and San Bernardino mountains and has the population of 41,000 permanent and 15,000 seasonal residents. The 20,000-square-foot public library houses more than 75,000 items. Patrons enjoy a diverse collection of books, movies, audio books, reference resources and databases, downloadable eBooks as well as programs and services. The City’s Creation Station (Makerspace) is housed in the building providing additional programming opportunities. The nearby La Quinta Museum, works in partnership with library staff as well.


Position Summary:

This position is ideal for an enthusiastic librarian with a passion for exceptional library service for a staff of 16 full and part time employees.

  • Know, understand and administer the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library; in addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies)
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.

Qualifications:

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.

  • BA/BS required, MLIS preferred
  • Three years supervisory experience is preferred
  • Three years of progressively responsible library managerial experience and/or administrative functions of a library, or equivalent knowledge is preferred
  • Experience in a role that requires frequent interaction with customers, fulfilling the requests of customers and responsibility for addressing customer issues, questions and suggestions is preferred
  • Experience analyzing and applying financial reports and library related data (usage, demographics, trends, etc.) is preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
  • Occasionally lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, books, and other materials.
