Job Description

The Cornell University Hospital for Animals is in search of a Biomedical Equipment Integration Specialist. This unique position offers growth opportunity within our Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and encourages variety and creativity. Our Equipment Technician Team plays an essential role in the hospital due to the level of sophistication of the medical equipment, necessary systems integrations and specific clinical use. You will have the pleasure of working and collaborating with Veterinary Clinicians, Information Technology Specialists, Biomedical Engineers, Veterinary Students and other Veterinary Professionals. The successful candidate will lead and assist with medical equipment and associated IS integrations with our veterinary electronic medical record (EMR). These projects require a resource to lead implementation, test, distribute and support these new systems across the hospital enterprise.

What you will do:

  • Serve as project support, working closely with supervisor and other project managers to evaluate, purchase, plan, implement and initially support various equipment and associated IT system purchases including general loT of medical devices, telemetry, point-of-care blood work products, angiography, linear accelerator, and cardiac and radiology PACS.

  • Proficiently design, implement, configure, and support a variety of IT applications associated with existing and new medical equipment.

  • Accurately develop and maintain a knowledge base of IT applications, including but not limited to solutions, system configurations and training materials

  • Professionally assist with troubleshooting existing equipment functionality; identify and research opportunities for further technological system development

  • Confidently utilizes informative and collective evaluation mechanisms to determine the appropriateness and effectiveness of projects/requests

  • Work collaboratively with vendors and in-house support teams, and serve as liaison between the Clinical, Business and IT teams to assess faculty/clinician, staff, client, and patient needs for workflow optimization

  • Clearly communicate to all levels of the organization regarding current project status and results

  • Assist and support Technical Services Supervisor with procuring, receiving, and implementing medical equipment into hospital system.

  • Assist with annual hospital equipment review, providing feedback and additional recommendations to submitting department, such as vendor selection and pricing; upon approval, assist with executing purchase of equipment as directed by supervisor.

What we need from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience with information technologies/computer science/biomedical technology or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Specific knowledge/experience in integration of HIS systems, to include general loT of medical devices, POC (Point of Care) Lab equipment, Cardiac and Radiology PACS systems, Radiation Oncology planning systems.

  • Strong communication, analytical, problem solving and project management skills.

  • High attention to detail and ability to document and report issues and problems.

  • Ability to follow a detailed plan and track progress toward completion.

  • Highly organized, shows initiative, anticipates needs and works collaboratively to develop solutions, as well as the ability to work independently.

  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with imaging modalities such as X-Ray, interventional radiology, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT, and MRI and biomedical equipment technician experience a plus.
