Purpose of Position

THIS POSTING WILL BE USED TO CONDUCT ONGOING RECRUITMENT AND WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED.

Why does the job exist?

Duties of the Border Violence Prosecutor include prosecution of criminal cases throughout the State of New Mexico from initiation to completion related to violent crimes involving foreign nationals or victims. It also requires conducting training for law enforcement, prosecutors and justice personnel related to border issues. Primary location will be in Albuquerque with travel as dictated by case assignments and training responsibilities.

How does it get done?

The Border Violence Prosecutor will seek criminal cases associated with complex extradition issues or involving criminals or victims of another country. The prosecutor will seek a timely and just resolution to those cases in the best interest of the victims or the community. The prosecutor should also expect to train law enforcement officers and other justice partners on complex extradition or border issues.

Ideal Candidate
  • Candidate should have a strong background in criminal law.
  • Candidate should be willing to work closely with justice partners to assist in complex extradition issues.
  • Candidate should have significant trial experience.
Minimum Qualification

Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law and four (4) years of experience in the practice of law. Must be licensed as an attorney by the Supreme Court of New Mexico or qualified to apply for limited practice license (Rules 15-301.1 and 15-301.2 NMRA). Employment Requirements

Valid New Mexico Driver's license.

Member in good standing of the NM State Bar or eligible for legal services provider limited law license, see NMRA Rule 15-301.2

Working Conditions

Executive Order 2021-066 requires all employees with the State of New Mexico to provide either proof of COVID-19 vaccination (including proof of a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster dose) or proof of a COVID-19 viral test every week.

The Public Health Order (on Vaccination) dated December 2, 2021, requires Congregate Care Facility Workers and Hospital Workers to have received a primary series of vaccination by October 6, 2021, and a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster.

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
