Job Summary

Develop, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive sports medical program for Mesa Community College intercollegiate sports. Performs professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and development of the program including: performing a variety of technical duties involved in the treatment, care and prevention of athletic injuries. Demonstrates a commitment to service excellence, innovation, student success, integrity, and diversity in the performance of job duties.

Additional Information

Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer Certification and Arizona Board of Athletic Trainers Licensure required.

Essential Functions

70% - Evaluates physical condition of student athletes involved in all of the athletic programs offered at the college. Provides information to student athletes on the prevention and treatment of athletic injuries. Works with physicians to implement prescribed physical therapy and rehabilitation programs for injured athletes. Work with coaches and strength and conditioning staff to assists in the development of strength and conditioning programs. Evaluates injuries of student athletes and applies immediate treatment. Reviews treatment plan of student athlete undergoing rehabilitation and oversees and participates in filing student insurance forms and claims for sports related injuries. Maintains and updates a variety or confidential records including medical records, injury reports, treatment logs, and progress reports on student athletes. Attends and oversees home game and practice activities.

20% - Ensures students comply with all NJCAA regulations, policies and procedures related to medical clearance for sports participation. Provides or coordinates staff training along with monitoring and overseeing students involved in the student athletic training program.

10% - Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives. Schedules pre-physicals, orders athletic supplies, maintains budget, schedules athletic trainer coverage and performs related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in sports medicine, exercise physiology or related field and four full-time equivalent years of athletic training experience.

OR

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field and six full-time equivalent years of athletic training experience.

OR

High School Diploma/GED and eight full-time equivalent years of athletic training experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • 4-5 years of professional experience in athletic training
  • Ability to: evaluate injuries and determine treatment; administer first aid and CPR
  • Demonstrated experience in athletic training, conditioning and rehabilitation
  • Experience with maintaining inventory and ordering supplies
  • Experience supervising and coordinating coverage of athletic trainers for athletic programs and events
  • Experience using sports injury tracking software and computerized neurocognitive assessment
  • Experience overseeing students in student athletic programs including pre-physicals, assisting student’s rehabilitation plan, processing injury reports, experience evaluating and monitoring student athlete’s physical conditioning programs
Special Working Conditions

Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License is required; employee must meet district minimum standards regarding driving:
