ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF REGIONAL GIVING

The Associate Director of Regional Giving serves as a member of U.S.VETS national team, and reports to the Vice President, Development & Communications. The candidate will provide matrixed supervision to 10 Development & Communications Managers nationwide, working collaboratively with site Executive Directors, Advisory Councils, and national development and communications staff to expand regional fundraising outcomes across the country. Successful candidates will utilize development best practices, systems, and metrics to effectively lead and mentor colleagues and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Support growth of regional giving at U.S.VETS sites across the country, projected at $5.8M in FY22.
  • Provide matrixed supervision, in partnership with Executive Directors, to 10 regional Development & Communications Managers (DCM), to support revenue outcomes and utilization of best practices.
  • Engage DCMs, Executive Directors and Advisory Councils in developing and executing regional fundraising plans; primary responsibility for driving the process that will direct staff to meet/exceed revenue goals.
  • Oversee training program including onboarding and training regional staff, leading strategy calls, and coordinating monthly development roundtables and annual conference.
  • Support regional staff in engaging donors and securing gifts; identify new regional prospects, support research, strategy, solicitation, and stewardship, in partnership with DCMs.
  • Support regional donor cultivation and stewardship to promote a culture of gratitude among internal and external constituents, develop and execute regional and national donor engagement activities.
  • Develop and implement systems to track performance metrics and increase pipeline development, including strategic use of research, database analytics and tools.
  • Participate in production of proposals, requests, appeals, case development, campaign materials and other donor-centric communications, in close partnership with Communications staff.
  • Lead annual budget and revenue planning, in partnership with site and national development, finance and executive staff; ensure that site projections reflect strategic advancement.
  • Effectively communicate regional needs to national team; build strong relationships with national Development Directors, site Executive Directors, DCMs, and other staff to best meet site needs.
  • Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including national executives and development team, and staff at each site by providing responsive, high-quality customer service.
  • Utilize donor research tools to support meeting preparation and strategic solicitation.
  • Maintain relevant information on prospects and donors including deadlines, contact information, action steps and other relevant data in Raisers Edge database.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelors degree required. The ideal candidate will have:
  • 5-7 years experience in nonprofit fundraising, and talent leadership.
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting and securing new charitable contributions, managing partnerships, exceeding revenue goals and measuring outcomes in a nonprofit setting.
  • Proven skills in moves management, and creation of strategies to sustain and increase investment.
  • Comfort working as part of a highly matrixed team, ability to lead indirect reports.
  • Ability to work effectively with and build consensus among diverse internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Comfort with financial information and ability to create reports and spreadsheets using a database.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Raisers Edge experience preferred.
  • High levels of integrity, flexibility, compassion, and humor are necessary, along with the creativity and persistence required to elicit new thinking and change.

We provide 5,500 veterans and families each night with housing, counseling, career services and comprehensive support at 32 residential and service sites nationally. U.S.VETS is developing veteran housing across the country, and expanding homeless prevention programs focused on jobs and mental health, to help veterans transition to civilian life.
