The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago has an opening for an Associate Counsel position in its Legal Department. As Associate Counsel, you will work on employment law and general corporate legal matters as a member of a small in-house legal team. You will provide sound legal advice and services in a consultative and collaborative way. A demonstrated aptitude for and willingness to learn other areas of the law and a clear willingness to assist colleagues in other practice areas where needed is also highly desired. You will report to the Assistant Vice President and will have no direct reports.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide counsel and strategic legal support to the Bank's People & Culture department on employment-related matters, including employee relations matters, performance management, investigations, accommodations, leaves of absence, and department reorganizations
  • Provide advice and counsel on diversity, equity, and inclusion matters
  • Respond to administrative claims and settlement demands, and help manage employment-related litigation filed against the Bank
  • Collaborate with other attorneys within the department and across the Federal Reserve System
  • Review, draft and negotiate contracts for the acquisition of goods and services
  • Assess potential legal risks, benefits, and consequences of decisions affecting the Bank
  • Present alternatives and propose solutions to achieve business area goals while managing legal risk
  • Participate on task forces, work groups, and other special projects within the Chicago Reserve Bank and the Federal Reserve System
  • Conduct legal research and provide legal advice relating to general corporate legal matters such as records management, law enforcement, and tax

Your Background

  • Graduate of an ABA accredited law school; member in good standing with the Illinois State Bar or be able to satisfy the requirements for eligibility as a registered in-house counsel
  • 2-5 years relevant legal experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel
  • Knowledge of federal employment laws
  • Employment litigation experience is a plus
  • Analytical, research, and communication skills
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Experience performing objective analysis and reasoning to solve immediate issues and to anticipate future business needs
  • Experience working cooperatively and collaboratively with others at all job levels
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks and projects outside of core areas of expertise

Requirements
