Certified Medication Aide - CMA for Full time position Evenings/Nights 2pm-10pm or 10pm-6am.

We are seeking Certified Medication Aide - CMA 2pm - 10pm/10pm-6am in our Assisted Living department. The CMA assists in the administering of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse supervisor or charge nurse, and the Director of Nursing Services. The administration of medications shall be in accordance with established nursing standards, the policies, procedures, and practices of this facility, and the requirements of the State. Responsibilities:
  • To prepare and administer safely and document regularly prescribed oral, rectal, optical, nasal, otic, and topical medications to Resident.
  • To administer PRN drugs as needed, when authorized by a licensed nurse.
  • Injectable medications must always be given by a licensed nurse.
  • To display ability in observing and reporting drug reactions and side effects of drugs commonly given in the nursing facility.
  • To demonstrate knowledge that the telephone or verbal orders may never be accepted by a MEDICATION ASSISTANT.
  • To understand and to demonstrate knowledge and ability in realizing that appropriate vital signs will be taken and recorded as required before administering certain drugs.
  • To demonstrate knowledge in using the PDR or other appropriate drug references.
  • To maintain an awareness of all regarding incidents involving medication errors.
  • To demonstrate initiative and responsibility for checking physician's orders against medication forms and against medication cards. NOT to assume responsibility of transferring orders.
  • To display an awareness of cleanliness and proper maintenance of all drugs and to maintain a clean working environment. To clean and leave the medication cart fully stocked.
  • To maintain a locked medication room and or cart when unattended.
  • To make rounds with physician when necessary.
  • To direct nursing assistants as appropriate to maintain a safe and highs standard of care.
  • To perform other duties as described in the nursing assistant job description.
  • To assume responsibility in performing all other duties as directed in order to fulfill state and federal regulations and to comply with philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Christian Horizons.
Qualifications:
  • Must complete a state approved training program in medication administration. Education or training for re-certification will be done according to Federal and State regulations.
  • Current Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification (preferred)
  • Must demonstrate good judgement in seeking guidance and supervision from licensed personnel.
  • Must perform duties as assigned according to nursing assistant job description.
