Assistant Lighting Supervisor

With over 700 events annually, the Assistant Lighting Supervisor helps manage the onsite backstage operations of theatre performance and production support facilities of the Office of the Arts Venues (Office of the Arts Venues include but are not limited to, the Cutler Majestic Theatre, Paramount Theatre, Semel and Greene Theaters, Black Box Theatre, Bright Family Screening Room, Paramount Studios and scene shop, and occasional work in off-site spaces). They serve as the Technical Supervisor on Duty (TSoD), supervising the day-to-day use and technical systems of the Office of the Arts managed facilities. The Assistant Lighting Supervisor provides real-time technical and artistic expertise for Office of the Arts shows and events. They lead a variety of lighting and projections projects and manage the scheduling of intermittent and student employees. The Assistant Lighting Supervisor will also track inventory for the lighting department as well as keep a log of and track repairs and maintenance. The Assistant Lighting Supervisor routinely and directly supervises medium to large projects staffed with (up to 15) intermittent and student technicians as per project needs. Working with Office of the Arts Production staff, they provide superior production values in Office of the Arts venues while maintaining safe working equipment and practices. They support the digital programming team with technical operations and supervision of streamed and digital events. The Assistant Lighting Supervisor plans and executes projects independently with limited supervision and solves varied technical problems. often adjusting methods on the fly.
The Assistant Lighting Supervisor supports the Lighting Supervisor and Associate Lighting Supervisor in the day-to-day operations of the Lighting and Projections Department of the Office of the Arts. With over 700 unique shows and events per year, the Assistant Lighting Supervisor will help ensure superior production values, safety, and smooth technical operations in all OA venues.

Your Key Responsibilities:
- Assist Lighting Supervisor and Associate Lighting Supervisor in the logistical planning of selected theater events and productions and provide technical expertise and supervision to said events and productions.
- Assist Lighting Supervisor and Associate Lighting Supervisor in the allocation, maintenance, and inventory of all electrics equipment and expendables.
- Independently supervise intermittent technicians and student employees in Office of the Arts venues. Supervision includes highly specialized theatrical tasks while applying and enforcing safe working practices.
- Serve as Technical Supervisor on Duty (TSoD) for shows, events, work calls, and rehearsals as assigned. The TSoD will be responsible for backstage safety, implement the Emergency Evacuation Plan when necessary, communicate with Front of House personnel, communicate with outside users and crews, maintain and protect house equipment, enforce house rules, and supervise part-time Emerson employee stage crew members and stage door supervisors. TSoDs act as the in-person real-time client liaison for all OA events, shows, and work calls.
- Provide lighting support on ArtsEmerson load-ins, outs, special events, and work calls. Support other productions and events as assigned. Provide "hands-on" assistance to those clients that require more help with the technical setup of their production.
- Supports Emerson Stage by offering technical advice and building expertise during productions.
- Work with clients and or rental shops to integrate rented equipment with Office of the Arts infrastructure.
- Support clients and partners by providing access to and specialized knowledge of OA equipment and facilities.
- Execute maintenance plans of stage lighting and projections equipment.
Your Other Responsibilities:
- Serve as Lead Electrician and/or Lighting Console Programmer as needed.
- Train student employees, overhire employees, and OA Production staff in the safe and proper use of lighting, projections, and other backstage equipment.
- Train all employees, contractors, and students in basic safe electrical and theater protocol as needed.
- Schedule intermittent, student, and contractor labor based on the needs of the project.
- Serve as Digital Supervisor on Duty (D-TSoD) for selected digital events.
- Purchase and Track supplies for shows, events, and maintenance.
- Act as interim Associate Lighting Supervisor when Associate Lighting Supervisor is out/as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or 2 years experience in theatrical supervision and crew management.
- Demonstrable knowledge in stage lighting and projection equipment operation.
- Understanding of and basic proficiency in computer-aided drafting.
- Demonstrable knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
- Ability to work with varied personalities in a high-stress environment.
- Additional knowledge of theatrical industry and OSHA safety procedures and practices.
- Additional knowledge and experience with theatrical rigging and counterweight systems.
You'll be preferred if you have:
- Assistant Lead Electrician or related experience.
- Experience with ETC Lighting Systems including Eos consoles, Sensor Dimming Systems, and Unison Architectural controls.
- Experience with Vectorworks and Lightwright.
- Experience servicing automated lighting equipment.
- Experience with theatrical projection systems.
- ETCP Entertainment Electrician certification.
Work Environment:
- Working at heights and various stage elevations.
- Exposure to noise, dust, heat, chemicals, fumes, etc.
- Regularly lifting in excess of 50lb.
- Requires long periods of mental concentration.
- Requires the ability to effectively communicate in person and through communication media.
