Who is an Engaged Assistant Head of School?

Job Summary: An ECS Assistant Head of School promotes the success of all learners by facilitating the development, articulation, and implementation of a vision of teaching and learning that supports the mission of ECS. The Assistant Head of School provides instructional and administrative leadership over curriculum, guidance, students, and staff at the school site. The Assistant Head of School ensures the appropriate behavior of the students and staff in the building and on the grounds. The Assistant Head of School provides necessary communication to the parents of the students regarding their children's progress and the general activities of the school.

Reports to: Executive Director

Key Responsibilities:

VISIONARY LEADERSHIP

  • Support the principal in developing a staff culture that aligns its actions to the mission and vision of Engaged Community Schools.
  • Support the principal in developing and maintaining systems that refine practices to improve students' achievement
  • Promote a growth mindset

INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • Support in the development and upholds a shared academic vision for excellence
  • Establishes measurable academic outcomes for all students.
  • Ensures the implementation of robust top-rated curricula in every classroom.
  • Provides and ensures weekly collaborative planning
  • Ensure quality cluster and instructional programming is happening through all grade levels
  • Create and maintain a master schedule reflective of ECS’ mission, vision, and desired student outcomes

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH LEADERSHIP
Provides instructional leadership at the school building through the development of:

  • A solid core of highly qualified teachers through recruiting and recommendation of hiring the best candidates
  • Data review and/or professional development sessions aligned to current teacher and student needs
  • informal and formal observation and feedback processes to ensure quality instruction
  • Providing timely feedback and support to all staff
  • A process to identify and support a teacher-leader pipeline
  • Support all instructional specialists
  • Teacher Improvement Plans as needed
  • Build capacity for their professional growth
  • Seek instructional resources, training, or professional development to help teachers, leaders, and self-promote instructional programming.

CULTURAL LEADERSHIP
Promote a positive culture that is conducive to achieving academic excellence through:

COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP
Consistently creates opportunities for meaningful collaboration with all stakeholders by:

  • Providing contributions for the weekly communication to families and staff
  • Creating opportunities for the team to plan and learn together effectively
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to provide daily communication to learners via

Announcements or other modalities

  • Modeling practices of being a Lead Learner and collaborating with experts on and off campus to improve their practices as a School Assistant Head of School

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
Facilitates and Implements a clear academic strategy for the year by:

  • Utilizing multiple data sources to create goals for improvement
  • Developing a long-range plan inclusive of action steps to support goal attainment
  • Using available resources and current data to progress monitor goal attainment
  • Meeting the school’s growth target as defined or showing progress in reaching the target
  • Supporting principal with the Instructional Leadership Team in alignment with yearly and cluster goals
  • Developing teachers and instructional specialists in their respective content areas
  • Support direct caseload of leaders and/or teachers with their yearly goals, cluster long-range planning, and implementation of cluster

Collaborates with Principal and Operations Manager to ensure:

  • Facilities are well managed, safe, and clean
  • Leave and Substitute Policies are followed
  • Front office procedures are clear and followed
  • Communication with families is timely, clear, and appropriate
  • Appropriate field trip protocols are followed
  • Approve classroom supply needs as necessary
  • Finalize and implement bus conduct policies

ETHICAL LEADER
Represents the school and district with integrity at all times by:

  • Modeling respectful, nondiscriminatory behaviors and trustworthy interactions with adults and students
  • Providing clear and respectful communication to the school leader, all school personnel, parents, and community groups
  • Maintain appropriate and accurate data on all students and school personnel to comply with local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Enforcing appropriate Federal Regulations, State Statutes, School Policies, and administrative directives

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $85,000.00 per year

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Indianapolis, IN 46202: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Teaching: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Instructional Leadership: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Indiana Professional Educators License (Preferred)
