The Assistant Controller – Shared Service Center is primarily responsible for the day to day management of the Finance Shared Service Center operations, establish Service Level Agreements (SLA), implement processes to achieve and sustain SLAs, timely and accurate production of financial and regulatory reporting as needed, maintain an adequate system of accounting records and controls for relevant Shared Service areas, update and maintain detail training material/procedure/policies, and work hand in hand with our Finance Leadership and Finance Transformation team in order to help ensure that transaction processing and compliance are taken into consideration as new systems are configured and put into service. Additionally, you will play a key part in the business operations functions that maximize MITRE’s value to our clients and government sponsors. As a senior member of the Director of Finance Transformation and Accounting Operations organization, this position reports directly to the Director of Finance Transformation and Accounting Operations.

Key Functions

  • Provide thought leadership and financial acumen to help solve problems of strategic importance
  • Lead and oversee Share Service functions, including the project setup, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, government property, employee expense reimbursements, commodity purchases, employee travel
  • Implement the redesigned business processes including expedite the adoption of Deltek Costpoint and other automation introduced to the Shared Service functions
  • Help normalize post go-live including perform assessments to continue to gain efficiencies in core Shared Service functional areas
  • Design, develop, establish, and sustain a multi-location Finance Shared Service Center, that can be scalable depending on additional services and/or growth
  • Develop and execute a plan to achieve the goal of establishing the Finance Shared Service Center to include detailed plans, communication campaign, definition of roles and responsibilities for each of the services
  • Establish and maintain compliance with SLAs, performance targets and measurable metrics
  • Collaborate with MITRE leadership, Business Partners and subject matter experts in order to identify, create and deliver technological solutions during the business transformation process
  • Analyze and diagnose current system processing issues and apply intellectual rigor in designing solutions, continuously improving throughput and accuracy in a manner that is supportive of the MITRE culture
  • Prepare and deliver necessary supporting analytics to assist leadership in decision making
  • Ensure compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and advise senior management and others throughout the company on appropriate application
  • Keep abreast of new requirements in financial accounting/reporting and government regulations and implement changes to comply
  • Support internal, external, Government audits including coordinating with auditors, preparing required items and investigating findings and recommendations as applicable to Shared Service functions
  • Must embrace new technology and be a change champion for the adoption of new approaches
  • Must be a good listener and coach in order to help team members understand their roles and flourish in a new environment

Required Qualifications

  • BA or BS preferably in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration
  • 12-15 years of relevant job experience
  • Experience standing up, designing or operating a shared services organization
  • Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement approaches
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet government suitability requirements
  • Experience managing and developing staff
  • Strong Accounting experience, deep knowledge of GAAP, and working knowledge of FAR and CAS
  • Strong Deltek Costpoint proficiency and working knowledge of Workday and Concur
  • Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Ability to problem solve in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Innovative mind-set with ability to independently initiate and manage change
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong executive presence
  • US Citizen
  • CPA preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Software as a Service (SaaS) ERP selection and implementation experience
  • Financial control, accounting and consolidation experience in a company with multiple legal entities (domestic and international)
  • Financial reporting and accounting experience working for a publicly traded company
  • Financial control and accounting experience in a company with multiple legal entities (domestic and international)
  • Familiarity with Federally Funded Research and Development Centers
