Position Summary:
The Assistant Controller/Senior Accountant (“Asst. Controller”) will perform complex accounting functions including but not limited to, oversight of grants and contracts, reconciliation, financial reporting, budgeting, report writing and data analysis. The position will research, understand, and apply State and Federal laws, agencies’ requirements, rules and regulations. Strong accounting and analytical skills as well and intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in various software systems and have the skills to reconcile and audit system reports. The Assistant Controller/Senior Accountant will report to and work directly with the Controller of Catholic Charities Housing Services.
Perform accounting responsibilities for Catholic Charities Housing Services (CCHS).
- Provide backup to the CCHS Controller for accounting and reporting functions including but not limited to: financial reporting and budgeting, fiscal grant management, cash flow “waterfall” calculations, development project draws, monthly reconciliations and reports.
- Work directly with the CCHS Controller to assess, analyze and document internal control environment, workflow procedures and processes. Assist with improving controls, efficiency and documentation of processes learn and document the accounting, billing and reporting processes for the assigned CCHS tasks.
- Oversee accounting and manage the external audit process for certain properties including reconciling with the property management records.
- Support CCHS program staff as necessary to maintain compliance with federal and state fiscal regulations, grant funding requirements and assist with external audits as requested May assist with preparation of the Indirect Cost Rate negotiation.
- Assist with maintaining accounting records including General Ledger and subsidiary ledgers including reconciliations and supporting documentation. Record entries, adjustments and corrections as appropriate and review data and reports in Sage Intacct software system.
- Manage multifamily projects for assigned projects including draws, General ledgers for new company, audits, cost certifications and reconciliations of property files in preparation for audits by auditors, investors, HUD, etc.
- Provide fiscal assistance and research to property management, development teams and asset management teams during lease up and stabilization for assigned multifamily projects
- Oversee assigned Mutual and Individual groups for proper accounting, GAAP reporting and special reports to families and/or internal management such as actual to budget reports. Oversee draws and cash reconciliations
- Learn new Intacct accounting system and develop special reports and dashboards as requested. Assist with evaluation and improvement of control environment as needed.
- Provide technical accounting assistance to bookkeepers and other CCHS staff
Perform responsibilities related to budgeting.
- In coordination with the CCHS program operation managers prepare annual and interim budgets.
- Provide training and support to CCHS program managers for budget related updates and cost allocation documentation including but not limited to time study policy and Personnel Action Form (PAF) submission.
- Research budget variances.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Non-Physical Requirements:
1. Education
· BA degree in Accounting
2. Experience
· 5 years of technical accounting and reporting experience (Senior Accountant), 8 years (Assistant Controller)
3. Special Skills
· Knowledge and experience with computerized general ledger systems, spreadsheet design, database management and reporting
· Intermediate to Advanced knowledge in Excel formulas and functions
· Excellent verbal communication skills
· Ability to be self-motivated, adaptable to change, and detail-oriented
· Ability to work in a team environment
· Willingness to learn new responsibilities
· Ability to be self-directed and represent the agency in a professional manner

Valid Washington State driver’s license and agency required minimum liability insurance
