T Brand is a growing team of energetic editors, designers, strategists, and more who create branded content for the gamut of The New York Times’s advertisers. Our work takes many forms — reported articles, documentary videos, animations, photo essays, social posts, podcasts, interactive data visualizations, event activations and Newsroom sponsorships.

The Studio is looking for an experienced Art Director to help brainstorm, design, art direct and execute innovative multi-platform native digital, print experiences, and beyond.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

An Art Director is a manager, responsible for leading the visual execution of each assigned project. Art Directors primarily do the following: imagine ways to tell stories visually, present visual ideas and recommendations internally and to our clients, find exceptional visual reference – specifically relevant to each idea, project, and opportunity, contribute to and oversee the creation of great mood boards, inspired type treatments, exceptional color palettes, and bulletproof page layouts. They oversee the design of presentations which elevate our work, the assembly of excellent paid post brand narratives, the design of impactful print ads, and Art Directors work with developers internal and external on complex bespoke web projects. Art Directors manage and mentor Designers and Senior Designers, and collaborate with external partners like illustrators and photographers, building relationships and guiding them through insightful feedback to create their best work.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • 6+ years experience working within an advertising agency, creative studio, or media organization with an emphasis on creating design work for a variety of clients.

  • Experience designing complex, multi-faceted and/or multidiscipline projects that include varying stakeholders, both outside clients and within an organization.

  • Proven track record of successful campaigns and a portfolio showcasing strong design and art direction execution.

  • Proven project management skills with ability to prioritize, organize their own time, and consistently meet internal and external deadlines.

  • Must be fluent in Adobe Creative Suite and Google Workspace.

  • Must have some experience designing responsively for web using Figma, and a familiarity with basic HTML, CSS, frontend design styling, and using a CMS system.

  • An interest in creating compelling user experiences, telling stories in innovative ways, and a desire to constantly push the creative envelope.

  • Applications without a digital portfolio will not be considered.
