The Aquatics and Risk Management Program Coordinator reports to and assists the Rockne Memorial Building and Special Events Manager with the daily logistical operations and management of all aquatic facilities and programs along with coordinating RecSports' risk management and safety operations. The Aquatics and Risk Management Program Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, supervising, evaluating and retaining a cumulative staff of 40+ lifeguards, swim instructors, and American Red Cross certificate program student instructors. This position supervises staff that is responsible for the management and operations of aquatic facilities at the Rockne Memorial Building, Rolfs Aquatics Center, and the St. Joseph Beach and Boathouse. This position will also be responsible for the inspection and maintenance of emergency response equipment and first aid supplies, staff certifications and University Risk Management required training, and performing other risk management responsibilities as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESPersonnel Management and Daily Operations
- Oversee the daily operations and staffing of Rockne Memorial Pools (6 lane, 25 yard, 210,000-gallon lap pool; 20,000-gallon therapy pool) and St. Joseph Beach; oversee limited staffing for RecSports Sport Programs at Rolfs Aquatics Center
- Recruit, hire, train, and retain a lifeguard, swim instructor, and CPR instructor staff of approximately 40+ student, on-call, and temporary employees
- Maintain all required records related to staff certifications and pool routine maintenance
- Oversee the scheduling of staff for the Rockne Memorial Pools, the Rolfs Aquatics Center, the St. Joseph Beach, and respective programming; monitor schedules and submit bi-weekly payroll approval
- Provide feedback, coaching, and mentorship for lifeguards and CPR Instructors; conduct semester employee evaluations
- Develop, implement, and administer operating policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the Rockne Memorial Aquatics Maintenance Technician and Rockne Memorial Building and Special Events Manager to monitor pool chemistry, facility maintenance; and inform campus partners when maintenance and repairs are needed
- Maintain proper operating condition of all aquatics recreation (i.e. lifejackets, kick boards, pull buoys) and safety equipment (i.e. backboards, lifeguard rescue tubes, etc.) and coordinate replacement purchases as necessary
Risk Management
- Oversee the scheduling, delivery, and assessment of all training and American Red Cross certificate classes; execute skills knowledge checks through routine skills testing and departmental training
- Upon request, work in collaboration with Sport Programs staff to conduct swim tests/evaluations for required Club Sport participants
- Participate in monthly RecSports Risk Management Committee meetings between the department and University Risk Management representatives to collaborate on the review, evaluation, and implementation of policies; address liability concerns; and establish risk reduction procedures
- Develop, implement, and regularly assess program area policies and procedures, department emergency action plans, and University training requirements
- Monitor and maintain the RecSports Risk Management Database for University and departmental compliance
- Collaborate with Facilities Management and Operations, Sport Programs, and Fitness and Instructional programs to maintain an inventory of first aid supplies for the department and regularly audit first aid kits.
- Serve as the University of Notre Dame RecSports American Red Cross Account Administrator
- Inventory and maintain all American Red Cross certificate course equipment
- Inspect and maintain AEDs and track records of inspections and battery replacement in collaboration with Notre Dame Fire Department
- Perform other risk management responsibilities as assigned.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Represent the department on campus wide committees.
- Assist with special events.
- Attend and participate in Division of Student Affairs events, programs, and training.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree with a major in recreation administration, sport management, leisure studies, physical education, kinesiology, or comparable degree
- Must possess the following current certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguarding/CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI)
- Must possess the following current certification or demonstrate ability to obtain within 90 days of employment: American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard, Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
- 2 years of demonstrated experience working in aquatic facility management and operations, aquatics programming and administration, staff development, risk management, and hiring/training/supervising staff
- Evidence of leadership experience and a commitment to student learning and development
- 2 to 4 years of demonstrated experience with a comprehensive understanding of university recreation center aquatics facility operations, programs and services.
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT), Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT), First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Trainer (CPRIT)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Recreation Administration, Sports Management, Physical Education, or related field
