Job Description

POSITION LOCATION- Chuckawalla Valley State Prison

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Supervising Counselor, the AOD Counselor is responsible for delivering programming services to the participants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver programming services to the participants;
  • Conduct group and/or individual sessions;
  • Evaluate and document the progress of participants assigned to their groups;
  • Document the delivery of programming services in ARMS;
  • Work with the participants to develop and implement a treatment/action plan;
  • Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectation for participations and completion; and
  • Work collaboratively with CDCR/CCHCS and institutional staff.
  • Attends all required staff training sessions in accordance with Phoenix House and state licensing requirements, completes all training on time
  • Attends and participates in program and all staff meetings
  • Adheres to and promotes the Phoenix House Mission, Vision, and Values while acting as a role model for others
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CREDENTIALS
The minimum qualifications for the AOD Counselor classifications are as follows:
Journey Counselor
Journey Counselors must meet one (1) of the following minimum requirements:

  • A Master's Degree in a social service-related field and registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS; or
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a social service-related field, AOD certified, and one (1) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; or
  • An Associate's Degree in social service-related field, AOD certified, and three (3) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; or
  • AOD certified and more than five (5) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor

Entry Counselor
Entry Counselors must meet one (1) of the following minimum requirements:

  • A Master's Degree or above in a social service-related field and registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS; or
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a social service-related field and AOD certified; or
  • An Associate's Degree in social service-related field, AOD certified, and two (2) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; or
  • AOD certified and Four (4) to five (5) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor

Apprentice Counselor
The Apprentice Counselor must meet one (1) of the following requirements:

  • Less than four (4) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; or
  • Registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS, enrolled in AOD education classes, and one (1) year of experience providing CBT services

  • Proficiency in MS Office systems
  • Ability to utilize an electronic healthcare record

  • Ability to be flexible; problem solver, self-directed; customer service-oriented, and collaborative
  • Skills and ability to engage and develop a rapport with patients and families of various backgrounds
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.00 - $31.00 per hour
