Job Summary:
Amentum
is looking for an Aircraft Mechanic Helper to join our team in Elizabeth City, NC. Must be able to obtain and maintain NACI/T1 clearance and be a US citizen.
The Aircraft Mechanic Helper assists the Aircraft Mechanic in servicing, repairing and overhauling aircraft and aircraft engines.
  • Assist Aircraft Mechanics in servicing, repairing and overhauling aircraft and aircraft engines, performing any combination of the following duties: adjust and replace parts such as control cables, fuel tanks, tires, batteries and filters, using mechanic's tools, remove inspection plates, cowling, engine covers, floor boards and related items to provide access for inspection and repair, and replace items when work is completed, assist in towing and jacking aircraft, and disconnect instruments, ignition systems, and fuel and oil lines.
  • Assist in dismantling, repairing, overhauling or replacing parts and assemblies such as engines, plumbing and hydraulic systems, and aircraft structural sections.
  • Perform routine duties such as furnishing materials, tools and supplies to the Mechanic; lifting and holding materials in place during operation; cleaning work areas and machines, tools and equipment, cleaning aircraft interior and exterior parts and assemblies with solvents or other cleaning solutions, assist in jacking and towing aircraft.
  • Inflate tires, fill fuel tanks and oil reservoirs, and grease aircraft using grease gun.
  • Possess knowledge of basic computer skills sufficient to use Government computer system to access various technical references for airframe repairs and Government training requirements.
  • Document maintenance as per Quality Assurance (QA) and established regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with work order timekeeping system procedures.
  • Maintain high state of cleanliness and utilize a clean-as-you-go process when executing maintenance duties. Perform weekly Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walk-downs.
  • Maintain situational awareness, stay cognitive-focused, and mitigate risks.
  • Comply with processes and procedures as per DHS/DOD documents and publications.
  • Immediately report missing, lost, found, or unattended tools to the supervisor. Maintain and control tools IAW tool control policy and instructions. Inventory and inspect tools on a regular basis to identify when to replace worn or broken tools and report the need for replacement tools to the supervisor.
  • Clean work area as necessary, assuring all hazardous materials are properly stored; Handle hazardous materials, expired materials and wastes in accordance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with safety rules and procedures and perform work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work area. Promptly report accidents, injuries, safety, violations, and/or unsafe practices or procedures to supervisor.
  • Perform weekly break room and smoking area cleaning duties.
  • May assist flight line Mechanic, worker, or servicer in servicing and repairing aircraft prior to flight.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid US State driver's license.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret data.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English is required.
  • Ability to obtain a Government flight line driver’s license is required.
  • High School degree or equivalent required.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI/T1 clearance.
Required Experience:
  • Must have assisted Aircraft Mechanics in servicing, repairing and overhauling aircraft and aircraft engines, performing any combination of the following duties: Experience adjusting and replacing parts such as control cables, fuel tanks, tires, batteries and filters, using mechanic's tools, remove inspection plates, cowling, engine covers, and floor boards to provide access for inspection and repair, and replace items when work is completed.
  • Must have experience in assisting towing and jacking aircraft, and disconnecting instruments, ignition systems, and fuel and oil lines.
  • Must have assisted in dismantling, repairing, overhauling or replacing parts and assemblies such as engines, plumbing and hydraulic systems, and aircraft structural sections.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of specialized courses in aircraft structural repair is desired.
