Job Description
Lake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking qualified part-time instructors to teach Behavioral and Social Service courses for the 2021-2022 year and possibly following years. The department is seeking both generalists and those qualified to teach Substance Use Disorder coursework. Course times and formats vary: mornings, evenings, and Saturdays; synchronous and asynchronous; online and face-to-face on-campus.

to prepare students for sustainable careers as behavioral and social service professionals.

Lake Washington Institute of Technology's (LWTech) Behavioral and Social Services program offers two degrees, a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree in Behavioral Healthcare and an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Behavioral and Social Services. LWTech students also have the option to earn a Certificate of Proficiency in Behavioral and Social Services. These studies prepare students to enter the workforce, advance in their current employment, or enroll in a graduate degree program in a related field such as, social work, addiction treatment, or counseling. Students in the Behavioral and Social Services program will develop the professional values, skills, and knowledge to assist individuals and groups with personal, interpersonal, and situational problems. Class curricula focus on the integrated treatment of mental illnesses, substance use disorders, physical illness, poverty, and homelessness.

Behavioral Healthcare BAS graduates will:
  • demonstrate knowledge of the structures, functions, and organizations which comprise the local healthcare system, with a particular focus on behavioral healthcare organizations
  • apply treatment principles to a variety of individual concerns
  • integrate the needs, roles, and strengths of professionals within healthcare and human services teams
  • apply care coordination skills
  • complete holistic biopsychosocial assessments and develop client-centered, person-first plans
  • demonstrate abiding hope in recovery for each and every person

Behavioral and Social Services AAS degree graduates will:
  • enter a wide range of entry level positions in the human services field
  • transfer to baccalaureate degree programs
  • assist clients in developing alternative strategies and informed choices for solving interpersonal problems
  • interview, assess, and appropriately refer clients to community resources
  • communicate effectively with clients and co-workers, verbally and in writing
  • protect client rights
  • facilitate client groups and effectively resolve conflicts
  • demonstrate critical thinking, teamwork, communication skills, intercultural appreciation, and information literacy skills
  • adhere to a professional code of ethics
  • meet Social Science, Humanities, Written Communication, and Quantitative Reasoning distribution area outcomes

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Plan and develop a variety of instruction objectives and experiences appropriate to the program goals.
  • Teach to the objectives of the approved curriculum.
  • Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Develop and teach lessons which foster and support equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Teach productive and constructive study skills to students.
  • Develop classroom and lab procedures (if needed) in conformance with identified policies and procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college requirements.
  • Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students.

QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, addictions studies, or sociology.
  • 2 years of related work experience.
  • Strong understanding of behavioral healthcare issues, treatments, and systems of care.
  • Support for the values of holistic, client-centered work.
  • Abiding hope in recovery for each and every person
  • Readiness to teach the use of varied intervention strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5 years of related work experience.
  • 2 years of clinical supervisory experience.
  • Collegiate teaching experience.
  • Community College teaching experience.
  • Distance learning experience
  • State licensure as a behavioral healthcare provider without restrictions.
  • Credentialing as a Substance Use Disorder Professional
  • Familiarity with local behavioral healthcare organizations.
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams. Bi-cultural and/or bilingual experience.
