Job Description

Activity Treatment Specialist FT- VanAndel Summit

The Activity Treatment Specialist is under the direction of the Activity Treatment Coordinator and is responsible for the implementation of specific planned activity programs in the VanAndel Summit Home. Additionally, they provide aid to Youth Treatment Specialists within the home by providing daily care, counsel and supervision to the adolescents living within a co-ed substance abuse recovery residential treatment program with adolescents ranging in age from 12-18 years old.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college as well as one year of relevant experience is preferred.
    • –Or- High school diploma with two years of related experience required.
  • Prior experience working with adolescents with in providing activity treatment services is required.
  • Experience working with individuals with emotional/behavioral disorders is preferred.
  • Possess demonstrated skills in various leisure time activities (i.e. arts and crafts, music, sports, camping, etc.)
  • For transportation purposes, must have a valid driver’s license
  • Subscription to Wedgwood Christian Services statement of faith and agreement with the goals, purpose, and objectives of the agency.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct care and supervision for residents in the home, in cooperation with the Shift Supervisor and Youth Treatment Specialists.
  • Planning and organizing activities on a weekly basis for the assigned home. The individual is responsible to lead the planned activities and while on duty provide residents with clear and understandable directives as they pertain to the activity.
  • Provide clear directives to the Youth Treatment staff during activities or leave directions for the staff to lead activities in your absence.
  • Under the direction of the Residential Clinician implement interventions and report on progress for individual client’s treatment programs as they apply to wellness.
  • Teach life skill classes and/or assist in leading group sessions designed to enhance cooperation and interaction skills of clients.
  • Assist activities team in the planning and implementation of the summer activity programs.
  • Plan and lead at least one overnight excursion (backpacking/canoeing etc.) each year.
  • Complete any client assigned paperwork as assigned.
